    Well, to be honest, in most PvP games ranged usually have an advantage over melee, It has always been like that.... But of course camping in one area increases that advantage... A melee can't play safe, a ranged can.

    It kind of reminds me to strategy games and defensive turrets. Once one tank runs into the enemy defenses (aka, melee unit) the turrets instantly target that tank at the same time and easily becomes the first kill.... For breaking defenses you usually need artillery, for range you need range.... Even if they'd be a class having a lot of magical resistance and arrow resistance that could get a safe approach, you're the one getting into enemy camp, enemy melees would also smash you...

    The best way in all PvP games for surviving + killing a lot, is go safe, go range. In secure this factor is less visible because a caster-bard, once taken by the reach of a melee is normally a free kill. And that can happen easier in secure because more 1 vs 1 possibility in encounters and people more scattered when not camping and going safe.
    (But, even, stills, if you're inteligent ranged, you should be able to run away quickly as soon you notice a melee you may not be able to defeat in 1 vs 1)

    Skill always plays a factor too, but advantage is always for ranged. if in a 1 vs 1 I try to run but a melee rushes into me, as BLM I can just use a PvP skill for insta sleep. If he uses purify I still having swiftcast + sleep... If no swiftcast I can go equanimity and try sleep, if he moves around for making me fail I can just bind it with blizzard 2, then easily run away or sleep him from a safe spot....

    OR... Even... PRepare fire 3 from max range position while it's sleeping, raging strikes, phantom dart, and let's try smash it. Reduce their movement speed with lethargy, you gain perhaps the enough time to burn...
