Ahaha, man, look at all the MLG pro-gamer tryhards in this thread.

This is a game for casuals. I'm a casual. I enjoyed the Steps of Faith for sure, once we finally got it sorted out, but a duty that appears to have so much going on with a very strict timer, it's pretty overwhelming for those who come around just to enjoy the story.

The main thing I'd suggest changing about it is to reduce the HP of trash mobs a bit. Or, reduce the HP and damage of trash mobs a lot, but add a ton of 'em, so you can really feel like your group is mowing through an army of dragons. Therefore, cementing you as people that the Dravanians should be very worried about and lend a bit of weight to your worth in the eyes of Ishgard as a whole. "Yeah, those guys we kept telling to shove it up theirs when they wandered by our gates? They are ridiculously good at violence. Let's be their friends."

Really, a storyline duty should be far more about spectacle than strategy. For those who love a real challenge, that's why hard modes exist.
