Is it better that we grind through our weekly allowance of content and then complain there is nothing to do.
The lock outs and limits are just signs of a poor design.

Several people have suggested a per-job rather than per-character weekly tome cap.
One way to simulate that in the current game is to create alt characters for different jobs. Alts also mitigate other per-character limits like inventory and desynthesis level.

Seeing how un-creative SE has been so far, I would not be surprised.

I agree, TC.
As a spammer of content (I'm always in DF), sometimes I'm not gaining much besides Gil. I then have to do another Atma weapon to make it feel like I'm not running content for nothing.

Hmmmm... Like Zeta weapons? lol...
I have BRD Novus with vigor light. I knew another BRD who got relic about a month ago. He passed me and sat on his Zodiac. When I woke that morning after the update, he already had Zeta. If THAT'S not blowing through content, I don't know what is.
I'm indifferent on the matter. There's so much to do in the game, especially with the Gold Saucer out, that even if a capped tome system is around, I don't think it'll mean much. I've only capped tomes ONCE since the game launched. Yup, only once. I have a lot of things that I have fun with in the game besides just trying to get gear. That's something I'd generically do in any other game... monotonous much? People always throw around "lazy design" like it's some sort of relevant defense lol. Prove it's lazy design, otherwise: opinions! Provide working solutions that take into account every conceivable outcome, particularly negative ones about how the player base will view and act upon it. Oh and it needs to be said despite how obvious it should be to others, but it has to also be a realistic solution that covers future implementation, any past content that may need to be adjusted, and any future content to come. Not to mention it has to also be something practical in meeting content release deadlines.
Seriously, there's not much point to treating a game like this as you would any other generic MMORPG out there. If you decide to log in, do everything immediately (or just do a weekly cap), then log out, it raises more negatively implied questions about you than it does the game. If I were someone that didn't play the game, I would ask you WTF are you playing the game for? As someone who does play the game, I ask you WTF are you playing the game for?

I don't mind caps, but I would love if the weekly caps be changed to be weekly allowances that accumulate at 450 each weekly reset until say 900.
For example:
Week 1: do 250, allowance = 450/900 -> 200/900
Week 2: do 400, allowance = 650/900 -> 250/900
Week 3: miss everything, allowance = 700/900
Week 4: do 700, allowance = 900/900 -> 200/900*
Week 5: do 450, allowance = 650/900 -> 200/900
*Allowance is credited on reset, but when week 4 starts, the player could only obtain 200 allowance, permanently missing out on 250 allowance.
If one "caps" every week, it would still come out to 450*5=2250; while in the example the player only gets 1800 (with 200 allowance remaining).

Maybe a soft cap would be best.
For example, after you get 450 tomes (or whatever) in a week, the tomes you receive is reduced by 90% until the next week.
Then you could always be getting more tomes if you REALLY wanted to, but it wouldnt be as tempting to burn yourself out in the first week or two.

They may get rid of tome currency and replace it with some other system, or uncap it but I don't see that happening, the gulf between those players who never leave their monitors and those who do would simply widen further.
This may not matter at first glance but these two groups of players are very often in the same FCs, and if your the casual and miss that window of opportunity to grind those tomes or dungeons for gear your screwed.
Many of these same casual FC members do not like DF pugs, I am one of them, and after the FC burns themselves out grinding tomes/dungeons while im not logged in I know what their going to say, you should have been here last week, we're done with that, it's "old" content.
Although I don't think the system is perfect, I think SE has done the best they can with it, I say leave it alone.
Sure, take the cap. But raise gear cost by like 1k and lower tome rewards from dungeons by 50% at least. So if people are gonna grind it out it'll at least take a while.
Jk. That's horrible.
Stick with it the way it is. It's good to keep things moving.
Stop bum rushing through stuff so fast and you won't get cap in 1 day.
