    3.0 hopefully not tome-cap reloaded

i really DO hope that we will finally be able to play this game like a P2P game should be like. I really hate the feeling of banging my head against all these cap/lockout etc. walls. I wanna play, i don't wanna wait. I can't even grind (only maybe for gear that is outdated, which makes SOOO much sense, and the relic ofc).
All the caps and lockouts don't bring the ppl together. People don't play after they have their cap. Most content lasts 1 day to be facerolled... is that really it?

Im now back to where i was a few months ago. Log in, cap 450 - which is fast. then grind a bit for relic - which isnt fun - talk to ppl - which is the nicest aspect - then log off. FFXIV looks amazing. but doesnt deliver. It feels restricted like a F2P title. And some of them have less restricions even.

I have no clue why so many people defend the tome caps. It's just lazy design. Most new content is recycled way too much.
But great news! the monthly fee goes directly into the development of 3.0... which we will have to pay 50$ for! yey

My guess is Allagan Tomestones will be phased out and replaced with a new kind of currency that works pretty much the same way.

    .
Well I'd imagine the tome cap is so people don't blow thru the content in a couple days. It creates a pace for progression. Isn't face rolling content in one day one of the things that you dislike? Or maybe I'm reading that wrong.

I think the game delivers far and above most other sub fee or "F2P" games honestly. The amount of content delivered is huge. There are also ways to acquire gear that doesn't necessitate tomes, like raiding coil. Various challenges you can undertakes, card games, chocobo racing and so on. But at the end of the day if you don't like something then why pay for it? Speak with your money and stop sending it to them if you don't feel it's worth it At the end of the day value is subjective to each person.

I'd like a item system that is more interesting than "grind tomes to cap every week". Don't think it will change though, but who knows.

I would like it too but if they remove the cap people will grind through content in a week and then complain there is nothing to do.

There may be better systems, but the tome system works for its intended purposes. I'd rather not turn to a RNG no RNG safety net system for when I need to gear up "casually" (with limited time). Without a replacement that behaves similarly I'd rather just stay with tomes. The cap itself is just to prevent players from playing the game "too" fast, which while sounds weird is useful for devs as it takes much longer to design than to beat content. Cap is about right for how much I play during weekdays, without worrying I need to dedicate a large majority of the weekend to tome farming.

The rate that the tome capacity increases is a bit slow but I'm sure they calculated that based on their gear costs just to keep a certain number of "gears per week".

Again maybe there are better ideas, and I'd love to see suggestions, but without another system friendly to progress over time in a non-RNGeus way I'd rather just keep tomes (tokens).

I think the system is a nice compromise between "Everything is pure RNG" and "Do content once and then you're done." I'm sure people would be none too pleased with either of those extremes.

So, there are several ways to control the rate of player advancement. One alternative, that used to be standard in MMOs, is drop rates that are less than 1%.

Weekly tokens are a way that improves on this, takes out the RNG element (RNG, by its nature, being very cruel to some players), provides a steady, predictable advance players like, but the cap means those with copious free time don't gear up (or complete whatever system is tied to the cap) near-instantly.

From what I've gathered, the devs put the same logic behind coil lockouts. You can only do it once per week, but you WILL get a drop, instead of grinding it over and over in the hopes you might see that 0.01% drop rate bahamut weapon.

These systems do have some issues, which you've highlighted. But the devs have taken steps to improve them. Under the new coil lockout system, I've seen tons of people with coil on farm offering to help fledging groups.

So then, OP... what would you suggest to actually improve the system, without throwing the baby out with the bathwater?

Also, the pricing for the expansion hasn't been announced. Retailers guess very high so they don't deal with customer backlash.

If there was no tome cap and no lockout, everyone would reach max ilevel, farm Alexander for the gear in weeks, then unsub until 3.1. Rinse and repeat. No thank you.

I do agree that the RNG loot system needs to be addressed, but I have no issue with the tome cap or lockout.
