Looking at this dev team's history, they'll do whatever fits their agenda to preserve game balance (ie the designed amount of time it takes the players to gear up), including shuffling things up.
I could even see them switching NIN to STR to have them share sets with MNK if Machinist and BRD end up sharing gear. That's the path of least resistance.
Except, that won't really work, because it's already been stated he will use dark magic, so it's also possible that it has a combo of str/int, or the attacks could be dealt magic damge, making it vit/int.
Vit is a no-brained for any tank class, but the damage stat could be a little different than notmal, do to the previously stated nature of his attacks and what it will have access to
DRK will be STR/VIT so it can share gear with WAR and PLD.
Fending gear is Vit gear. Every class has a secondary "main" stat on their left side pieces. Most classes have Vit in that slot. For tanks Str is in that slot. You can tell that Vit is the primary stat by looking at the accessories which never have str. They have Vit.
Why can't Machinist be an INT class? Machinist seems someone who can also create the machines instead of just use them, thus requiring intelligence. Maybe not in pure magical sense, but in more of knowledge and science sense!
I'm not sure your point. Its still STR/VIT.
who cares , hope we got tokens as drops instead of loot.
Tank and Healers are going to share gear so np with that
MCH is going to use DEX , if its going to share gear with BRD is still unknow, Nin doesnt share with bard because looks ....a nin using brd gear ? (CT gear for example )
It would be nice if they did add new stats, AGI and CHR would be nice.
Yoshida-san and team did say that 1-50 was a learning phase, something to get used to, but not at all close to the solid final form (I'm paraphrasing).
So 3.0 could in fact come with different stats for new Jobs, and old ones as well. Heck they could do something crazy like get rid of the job buff from the old classes and that would send everyone for a loop (of course the ability's from the jobs would still be amazing).
The point is, New stats seem to be the best way to go, and I hope they do that in 3.0!

I am a winner, even though I sometimes fail.
The point is one is clearly primary and the other secondary. You don't see Str on the accessories that are labeled fending.
You don't look at bard and say they are a Dex/Vit class do you? No one does. This thread alone specifically refers to them solely by the dex attribute even though their second primary stat is vit. Their accessories likewise have only the dex attribute. Everyone actively refers to this as a dex job.
In the exact same way are tanks ONLY a Vit class. Tanks don't suddenly get acknowledged for 2 stats while you gleefully ignore that aspect of the other jobs. Either they all have 2 stats or they all have 1. Use a consistent measuring stick.
No you are wrong. Most tanks use STR accessories to help their performance. Unlike other jobs tanks have two main stats to worry about.
It's also the reason hybrid accessories are most important for tanks so they can cap viT and str.
I120 plus tanks don't need a single VIT accessory unless they are doing FCoB and even then they use a hybrid mix.
STR also affects party and blocking.
While VIT may be the highest stat both sTr and VIT are equally important. VIT is like ACC once you have enough for the fight you don't benefit from any more.
