What hurts is people who cannot show patience and civility and remember it's a game that is meant to be played, not an inconvenience meant to be overcome.
Players with common goals, not friends. If I have to be forced to grind content for an item I need, I'm not looking to make friends. I'm looking to get the content done.
A person (like myself) can play an MMORPG with zero intention of making new friends. I queue up for a dungeon, and keep mostly silent through the whole thing (exception would be explaining things about the dungeon to someone who doesn't know). Although I like cooperation, I have no desire to advance my relationship any further with any of the other masses. My friends list is composed of real-life friends. My fc is me and a few real-life friends as well.
I feel ffxiv panders more to the "lone-wolf" play-style than any other mmorpg out there in fact. Your one character can level every class, every profession, and has a engaging storyline for an mmo. I'm more interested in the content than the social aspect.
It's this reason that I get annoyed when I'm carried through something. I'm here to achieve, not to watch.
