Skill Speed isn't a particularly strong stat for MNK, in the sense that having CHR isn't strictly worse. As long as you have enough to do your preferred PB opener and not so much that you go dry in content before other players and need Paeon early, you shouldn't worry about how much you have. ACC > DET > CHR/SS.

Actually, I found out eons ago when Saurian was our crafted set... Crit is not as bad as people say it is. I was actually pushing out more DPS with a Saurian Set melded for Crit/SS than the Gloam Set when it was new, but I digress, that was eons ago as I said. Although the misconception that skill speed causes you to go dry faster is still... funny. There is honestly nothing wrong with pushing for a flat 2.00 GCD, or a 2.01; Now if we were to go to the extremes and pump nothing but skill speed and push for things far lower it becomes an issue. Yet at the same time, people keep telling me Yoshi wants to buff skill speed in 3.0 and I cannot find anything on that... So could anyone point me to that? By the way, critical was assumed worse due to a 'soft' or 'hard' cap; With enough testing it has been shown that critical hit rate can exceed this fabled 25%, but in another game where there are similar stats, the major priority for all DPS is to hit the critical cap and then focus on the little things. The critical multiplier there? 1.5x as well.

Does anyone use touch of death as soon as perfect balance falls off? I've been doing this and I haven't had trouble keeping gl3 up. So it's demo, snap, snap, dragon, twin (sometimes twin, dragon whatever I feel like or depending on fight), then touch of death, boot, true, demo. This way I make the most of the first demo and get a fully buffed demo, touch of death, and even a fracture depending on the fight right after demo.

I've been working on changing it up since there was a discussion on this exact thing a page or 2 ago. Still feeling out the fights, like t7 Mel cast circle blade right when I needed to Snap to keep GL3, I guess I could have ate the aoe (especially since t7 is about as deadly as a plastic butter knife now) but I didn't which pretty much wasted PB. Most attempts have been successful, but wasting PB really ticks me off >.<

You've got to plan the opener out per the encounter. In T7, just eat the AoE (Second Wind + Stoneskin = who cares), but in a primal like Garuda or a fight with a real AoE you have to dodge like Xande in ST, you have to compensate.

    ^ Exactly this.

Your opener shouldn't be set in stone. It's great to always shoot for the optimal setup, but there's fights where you have to be able to react and adjust accordingly. So lets say for example it's a poor pull by the tank and some movement occurs you have to know what you can drop to keep the momentum going. So sometimes it might be best to drop out the buffs or off GCDs until after PB, and sometimes you have to know when to shave PB down to 4 moves if things really went sour. Fight momentum is the key things with monk. You just need to stay in the flow and don't sweat too much on the opener as long as you get GL3 and hold it you're good. Also as Sleigh mentioned there's some AoE moves you can just eat so that you can do your optimal opener so you'll have to learn what you can get away with in your group and what you can't.

Didn't expect quick responses. Glad I got them but it looks like I'm doing the right thing. Obviously in some fights you can and others you can't. But where it's optimal I'll keep doing what I'm doing :3

Is it still expected for monks to spec with 31 Determination and 44 crit materia on relics?

In a cheap, perfect world, yes. If money isn't an issue, then I'd say yes, manmode that relic with straight CRT and DET. If money is an issue then slot in some ACC materia

Currently have it melded with 23 determination 33critical and the rest in accuracy. I do have enough alexandrite to respec while I make the cash for the new materia and farm light.
