Yeah, I'm used to this system in WoW (where it actually did more damage to gear). What makes the system there less annoying is that you can repair all your gear to 100% at an NPC with just a few clicks of the mouse.

You could, naked. I'm of the school that death is it's own penalty though.I can no longer try dangerous things just for fun on my own. Not to mention only being able to put FIVE items in bazaar for repair at a time. Very annoying limitation.

....C-c-c-chocobocos!It's not the spending gil in dark matter.
It's having to go back to town, put your crap for repairs, wait for repairs, wait, wait, put the next 5 items, wait, wait, and you can go now.
Seriously, just having to teleport back to town is bad enough by itself already. Out of anima? You are screwed.
@Neptune: Something as trivial as spending 2 minutes waiting for Weakness to wear off isn't going to be enough detriment to stop players from dying.

Not dying is what motivates me not to die! Because 99.9% of my in-game immediate goals are set back n amount of minutes when I die, I just don't want to.
Does gear damage motivate more not to die? Nope, I was already at max motivation. It makes me hate the game every few raids though.

Who referred to you specifically? If there's not a good penalty for death, then people aren't going to give two shits about dying. Walking back to where the mob was and waiting 2 minutes for weakness to wear off isn't memorable or a large inconvenience. Having to go back to town or get decreased stats because you keep doing stupid stuff like running through mobs 25 ranks above you is going to make a lot of people stop doing that, or else they're just going to complain about it because they don't learn. Not dying is what motivates me not to die! I think we should be able to repair our armor from (almost) any NPC for gil. I really don't like that my armor is breaking this easily and that I have to go through silly hoops to fix it.
How many of these village idiots we have who go around the world training rank 80 mobs for the lulz?Who referred to you specifically? Most of us don't die in silly grind parties by the node. I can't even remember the last time I died grinding or leveing or doing some silly low profile quest, or even to world NMs.
I remember dying because the friend I was duoing DCed at a bad time, or to an awfully unlucky 2 flan pop in mistbeard, or 100 times trying to do the stupid ogre without an ARC army.
Maybe it's just that you have too much free time and don't really care about wasting it waiting for repairs.

EDIT: Oh and I just use the repair NPC. Stats still don't matter for jack and I equip an alternate piece of gear in the meantime. Plus, leves still give enough Gil for me to use repair NPCs, or I just put it up for repair in my bazaar for 150% of the Dark Matter cost and do some leves. Usually someone repairs me while I'm at a camp aetheryte.
