Legit Question for those against Cash Shop - Mog Station

Why weren't you guys protesting the sales of Fantasia and Retainers this hardcore? They've been there for months now as an optional purchase and somehow the game didn't cease to exist, despite being P2P. You guys do realize that being able to purchase Retainers does far more to game balance than a minion that behaves no differently from what you can obtain in-game..right? Fantasias can change your race and gender and full appearances, something the haircut dude cannot do - which is far more "P2W" than these minions and mounts are. So if there's a "slippery slope" why hasn't it happened by now in the Mog Station?

So, the difference is, they didn't call the mog station a 'cash shop'?

Retainers and fantasia were things that we could get in the game already. This other stuff they will be putting in the cash shop are going to be things that can not get them unless you pay.

Instead of fantasia you could create a new char (and you get some for free) and instead of additional retainers you can use other storage methods aswell (other char, own guild....)

But you can't get premium cash shop items. There is no other way getting them.

so far the things announced have been a plush toy, a mount, and stuff that WAS available at one point but some people missed. I'm not really seeing an issue.

You can't get Fantasias in game unless you're a Legacy account and the initial 30 day reward thus have to buy any subsequent ones you want. You can't get more than 2 retainers in-game either so having a 3rd or more retainer has to be purchased. And also if you play semantics, you can't get the veteran rewards in-game either unless you pay, so by extension, those on a free month can't get the same items as those who pay

That's why I ask why no one boycotted the sales of those 2 things by now despite being there for numerous months. It's the same logic, if the mog station didn't bother you and you didn't utilize it, you have the choice not to utilize the cash shop either when it offers less game changing items. The only one would be fantasias that they've been selling.

So we have now:
Fantasias announced: "it's fine guys it's just fantasias, get over it."
Extra retainers announced: "it's fine guys it's just extra retainers, get over it."
Now: "it's fine guys it's just extra minions and a mount, get over it."

Right now, I don't find it a huge deal, however if these were supposed to be veteran rewards that were pulled at the last minute to throw in a cash shop, that is meh.

I think people are just wary because every time they do something like this, everyone is just kinda apathetic about it. If they see this is working they're gonna start pushing a bit harder each time adding more things that might blur the line.

I mean, how many more people would be upset if they no longer gave people new hairstyles and just threw it into the shop with no other way to get them?

Well if I want that plush toy and mount now I have to pay extra thats the problem. If you tell me those thing will be in later veteran reward or can get then ingame i wont complain.

what bothers me is the retainers are technically more expensive than anything in the cash shop could ever be.
Mog toy? ~$5 and it's yours forever.
Retainer? More expensive than the mog toy after just a few months. And you gotta keep paying or you lose it.
Yet people are complaining about the mog toy.

Yeah, there were some: "DON'T DO IT!" but it was far less "THE GAME IS OVER" like it is now simply because SE chose to sell stuff that has far less of an effect on the game.

There's the problem - It was never going to be Veteran Rewards, people just assumed that because they wanted it for free. People weren't even supposed to know of their existence if it wasn't for dat mining websites like XIVDB. They tend to announce vet rewards in advance when most are reaching or have reached the current "cap." I seen nothing about the Hildebrand painting in Cash Shop, which is a vet reward.
