Legit Question for those against Cash Shop - Mog Station

what bothers me is the retainers are technically more expensive than anything in the cash shop could ever be.
Mog toy? ~$5 and it's yours forever.
Retainer? More expensive than the mog toy after just a few months. And you gotta keep paying or you lose it.
Yet people are complaining about the mog toy.

Because, as people already pointed out above you: You get 2 retainers per character as it is. You don't need them and can already obtain them in-game. If you feel you need more than 2, that's what alts are for.

The mog toy and anything else that is added to the cash shop you can NOT get in-game via any method. Period. That is the problem. If we weren't paying monthly for updates and content as it is, then I would agree with you. But as it stands, I PAY a monthly fee for my content and updates. Having them held back and pushed through for more money is a slap in the face.

Why weren't you guys protesting the sales of Fantasia and Retainers this hardcore?

Because I assumed they where either minor, one-time bonuses, or (In terms of Fantasia or server changes) charges outside of your subscription to alter core aspects in how you experience your game, like to fix a mistake you made in choosing where to play or what race to play as.

To be frank, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't win my Baby behemoth from fighting the behemoth FATE, nor did I like the idea of having to pay for an extra retainer. But I didn't expect it to be a common occurrence.
It's greed, it's double dipping, I won't try to mask it as anything else and I will not support it. Though I will probably miss out on some great looking gear and minions now.

I think people are understandably afraid where this might go. With a cash shop, it always starts out nice "only vanity". Time will tell.

As for fantasia: they handed them out at first so you could change to have a better experience.

Please be aware that this is just one group screaming on the forums. There might be a bigger group which fully agrees with this cash shop. It's just like how we see thread after thread about Coil's difficulty. Then when at the Fanfest they got the opposite reaction: people did not like it when they basically said Coil would get easier. Goes to show that the more vocal people tend to win more often.

I have never used a cash shop if it was available for the MMO I played (WoW/GW2 comes to mind). I never will. I'm happy for those who really want it. I just hope SE doesn't not try to double dip too much.

First off, you are assuming that everyone against the cash shop is doing it in protest of these two options. They're not. If you want to find out more, simply read the comments left by those who disagree with the actions being taken.

My disagreement lies in with a mount possibly being obtainable through a cash exchange method only. I keep pointing out I say "possibly" as they tend to leave out details until last minute (without wanting to cause controversy I will remind people they did say the eternal bond system can be same-sex very late into it).

As for it bringing better balance to the game, I think that's nonsense. It doesn't do anything to balance the game but give those with more money, more item storage from which they can make gil. They are indirectly making gil from their cash exchange. However, I will say I am a culprit there in having hired the two retainers. However, additional retainers to not provide a huge benefit to vanity gear (well, having more gear I suppose it does). Whilst things like Fantasia potions do, but they did appear to be more of a one time obtainable item (although I would assume SE had that planned all along to sell them anyway and kept it hush hush so people wouldn't be so bothered). Now, with the likes of mounts, minions, and other "just vanity gear" this is where it crosses the line, for me anyway.

Yoshi-P and the rest of the team have gone on to say several times that End-Game extends beyond that of coil and includes crafting, gathering etc. Why does this suddenly not include achievements? Obtaining rare gear, such as mounts? Odin is a level 50 fight and thus it is end game. I specify the odin fight for quite obvious reasons, the mount is sleipnir.

Agree. Being afraid of cash shop is very reasonable thing. We cant be sure what they will add in it and now we only have their word which doesnt mean that much to be honest.

1) Extra Ratiners only let you gather more/faster existing stuff. There is no extra content coming with them, those who are paying for extra retainers are not recieving exclusive items that those who don't can't have.

2) We all get a free Fantasia.

Not the same thing at all.

I just dislike the fact that in every live letter, ever preview trailer, (and so on) whenever they show off things that could be considered vanity from now on (Mounts, Minions, Armor, Weapons) I'm going to have to ask myself "Is this going to be in the game, or a cash shop exclusive".

Up until now, content like that was ours just for subscribing, now suddenly it isn't.
