    Because they went Free to Play. You kind of left out that factor. Blizzard is offering a bit more in order to allow people to catch up instantly for an EXTREMELY old MMORPG and the way they do their progression they know that some people out there are willing to dish out money for a "previous cap" character to bypass all of the outdated and obsolete content, did you see them offering character sales back in WoW's prime? I bet you didn't.

    I don't remember a cash shop back in its prime... just server transfer and name change.
