It kind of shows who the vocal minority are to me when the forums are littered with people whining about difficulty but when a fan gathering is held the true feelings are much more obvious.

because everyone know the majority of the players are present in the Fan Fest (how can one not afford a trip to Vegas in a "limited tickets" event ?) and can assist to the live letter (which is a restricted event in a restricted event)
Be real, it only shows that the minority present at the Live Letter was in majority against a nerf. Nothing else.
On the other side, I don't see why they boo'ed the discussed nerf (petrified people can no longer be insta-killed in T7) as it won't prevent stupid death (petrified your healer/OT/kiter ? wipe). People complaining for the sake of complaining ? It will only allows the raid to survive if MT gets petrified and maybe one of the 2 healers
It was as close to a random sampling the population that we'll probably get. There were many casual and hardcore players there and there were p plenty of people there for it be reasonably significant. Statistically it's not bad at all. Hardly a minority.because everyone know the majority of the players are present in the Fan Fest (how can one not afford a trip to Vegas in a "limited tickets" event ?) and can assist to the live letter (which is a restricted event in a restricted event)

Statistically, people who don't agree tend to express it louder that those who are satisfied. We don't see the public in the stream. It could have been 10 people out of 200, or 150 out of 200 (numbers made up, take them as 5% or 75% or whatever pleases you)...
And sorry to say, but people going to Fan festivals are hardly the huge "I play to relax" majority of players. they are mostly dedicated players, with numerous good players among them, lots of them tackling Coil already or at least trying.
Yes you have a good statistical sample of the dedicated player base.
No you don't have a good statistical sample of the entire player base.
More like everybody who spends money to go to a fanfest are the ones doing coil
From experience, it's a terrible way to judge the community outlook (much like every other way such as the forum). A game I was playing back then had a live PvP event, and people were booing at the player who had radial AoE stun (good for support), but cheering for the player who had the ability to literally one-shot people from 100% hp in the truest sense.
Doesn't do either side any good though if you take one perspective and immediately dismiss the other side either; I'm all for nerfing coil but to an extent. I still want to be able to progress the way it is right now, and my group is still struggling to find the last slots to fill. If it's just 20% echo, it doesn't do much for the mechanics anyway, and you can turn it off so why would it matter in the long run.
Amount of people to the gathering vs amount of people on the forums, maybe different people - same minority XD.
This, This, This, This.
That's all there is to say, discussion over. The playerbase crying about difficulty is an extremely vocal minority that are asking the developers to nerf content because they can't clear it. Basically they are trying to wave their subscription in the dev teams face asking if they can buy a win to 2nd coil because they don't have the time or patience to play the game and clear it normally.
If you're so determined to bribe the devs with your subscription fee to change content, then why not instead farm gil in game and get a free company to sell a clear run to you? Honestly if you criticize people who buy runs of Primal Extremes or Turn 5, Etc, yet think you are Perfectly fine for asking the dev team to Nerf content in game because "you pay a monthly sub and your voice matters" then you are quite disconnected in your logic.
Also, 2nd coil clear runs will be selling for a lot cheaper with the echo buff coming in 2.4.

Tried. Ramuh ex is still around 2.5 mil on my server. Assuming second coil (with lockouts) is about 40 mil for 4-9, it will probably drop to around 25 mil for all turns, or like 7 mil a turn. This is ridiculous, when most people can barely afford a house.
My main past time on FFXIV is buying and selling, so I do have a bit of gil, but I probably would not drop 25 mil for some gear that might or might not be relevant to my class, when it is old content and should be playable by the non-hardcore raiders now.
YOU GUYS GET FINAL COIL. Is an entire new raid of 4 turns with the best gear, new visuals and cutscenes not good enough for you? Why will you need i110 items at that point?
