A rank 50 needs a "level 12" to tell them what other ways there are to progress besides leves?

But if it'll help a fellow Eorzean, however much of a smartass they may be...

A mix of leves, sp parties, solo grinding, quests, behests, dungeons (when applicable)... and so forth. In other words... a mix of all the content in the game that rewards sp for partaking in it.

I disagree about 90%, Have you done a dungeon? Massive SP gains and better SP gains from mobs in general. IF you are complaining about leves he never stated it wouldn't be nerfed he said it was changed and also said leve linking would no longer provide the same EXP as usual. As for solo he said you would only gain SP at the end and ofcourse through common sense that only means you are going to get less SP. Is this something to really complain about? IMO the rank up process was way too quick for an MMO or a video game in general even for the casual players. I hit rank 50 in the first or second month the game was released. He also clearly stated that Leves were going to be no longer the main focus of things to do for SP and it was a mistake to make them be that in the first place.

I'm back after running a few solo leves with the goal of finishing them in under 5 mins for max SP. Did 3 runs as a 24 THM at Camp Drybone (just to get some numbers) - Results:

5 star - 24 THM solo - Avg SP/Kill (NO GF): 45 - Bonus SP for completing under 5 mins: 138

So with an average of 7 mobs per leve ("The Enemy Appears"), being 14 levels over but finishing a 5 star in under 5 minutes nets you 453~ SP.

Ok! Let's move on to Camp Horizon with our 24 THM and see what the SP is like..

The Devilet Inside - 1 Star - 24 THM solo - Avg SP/Kill (WITH GF): 61 - Bonus SP for completing under 5 mins: 960

A Leg Up - 2 Star - 24 THM solo - Avg SP/Kill (WITH GF): 72 - Bonus SP: 840

So.. 1500~2000 SP for 5 minutes work doesn't sound like such a terrible thing.. until you factor in you can only do so many leves at the optimal rank, with a cap of 8 per 36h.

I can take my 24 THM to Nanawa Mines and try there.. but then we're not really talking "casual" play at that level.. It's possible, sure. Probably not for the average weekend warrior though.

So to sum up: Don't use GF, or bother with leves at all until level 30..? I'm not sure how else to take the results, but yeah this is a ridiculously small sample size. Can someone else post pre-30 solo leve results? Either way, I'm pretty certain it won't stay like this too long. I'm completely underwhelmed, unless I'm still doing it wrong. I welcome feedback

Choco, I think you're doing it wrong. Or maybe it's your THM that's killing the skillups. I always do my Horizon leves on 3 star and get 150-200 SP per kill. Bonus is also always over 1000 so I'm not sure what's going on for you.

It seems people are underestimating the power of having no surplus.

Before you whiners post do the math first.

Pre-1.18 you got roughly 80k SP per week before rank 1 fatigue (-10%) another 80k till rank 2 (-20%) and so on.

One leve reset in a fully effective r40s leve party will yield around 120k per run (each full run takes about 4 hours) if everyone in the party has 8 leves (only the good ones) to share. Most effective grind parties were round 20-25k sp/hr. Raptor parties were around 30k (45-50k if it was a 3-man party with archer).

In the current system a full set of leves without using GA is around 40k. Dungeons are giving ungodly amounts of sp an hour 35-40k per run if you're just farming SP and treasure (which takes about 35 mins with people of appropriate level).

Pre-1.18 it was roughly 30k/hr failing leves every reset. Not to mention it was a pain to gather people with correct leves unless you were in a static.

Post-1.18 its also roughly 30k/hr, but there is no fatigue.

I'm ranking up an alt now playing as Lnc, already rank 38 since the patch was released.

Exactly, the only thing that stays the same is change. Deal with it, use your head and for god's sake quit complaining, it would be one thing if someone killed your dog, but they killed your idea of what exploit vs. balanced game play we all used to gain massive SP before was. The SP has merely been redistributed, it's our job to find where.

Me and a partner both rank 40 found a group of 45 Amaljaa around broken water and we both get about 300 sp a kill. Fast fights. Go test things out

Basically at Rank24 you should be going to Mines or Nophica etc.

I found that since the update stars for leves correspond as follows:

4 star leve is 9 ranks above the Camp's Rank (say Horizon is R20, the 4star mobs will be R29)
5 star leve is 12 ranks above or so

5 star mobs give 10 more SP than 4 star mobs (this is without aspect); Generally getting around 1500 SP bonus on completion (Again without aspect) [these figures are from doing a R30 nophica leve at R30 pug]

It makes sense for SE to bring star difficulty and rank into correlation. No more staying at drybone or horizon in your 30s lol. Move on somewhere else.

This is just crazy. Why add good features then take out the great ones? Leveling is a complete chore now. At this rate i quit again before i even hit 40 and im 33 now. Good job Yoshi, way to stick it to the players who are loyal enough to show support for an already less then stellar game!!!!

i hav to agree exp in leafs an behests is terrible right now. Killing normal monsters is better. i hav decided to quit this game again for the moment an await the class changes. these exp problems and disconnect problems (disconnected 2 or 3 times yesterday on leafs, my brother disconnected as well at times during leafs) are killing me. going back to ffxi now see you.
