It sounds like you're asking for Darkmoon Faire type arenas scattered around the game world with periodic events/FATES in those arenas. Is that right? That seems like something the game should have. That wouldn't have any spillover into other content.

For the dueling, I'm with the suggestion of a 'no duel' flag (maybe set to on by default so new players don't get the frustration of dealing with duel spam) or a dueling area set aside in a section of the city that you have to enter to duel. As long as duels aren't breaking out in the marketplaces then I can't see how it would break immersion. So maybe no dueling in cities unless in a designated dueling area?

Edit: Maybe the golden saucer or platinum mirage would make sense for the location of a deathmatch-type arena? These are new areas that are coming and may be easier on the devs to squeeze something like this into.

Any reason why you cannot support this?

I strongly disagree. As a matter of fact, I believe it would add more immersion to the game.

Imagine... a role playing scenario in which two rivals duke it out! Golden material! Fabuloso!
I think the key to this complaint is the 'anywhere' part. If an armed brawl broke out in Hawker's Alley, the yellow jackets should show up to break it up and they're assuming that the NPCs wouldn't respond.

So either they can do a designated dueling area in the city (arena in Ul'dah), and/or allow it outside the city (and give players a no-duel flag so they can not be bothered with duel challenge spam).

Or I suppose they could make it so the guards become hostile to those players and try to thrash them. I'd rather them not do that though. It would probably encourage some bad behavior.

Seeing as a Pvp zone currently exist but few people are interested, I can see why you want more zones so the pvp lovers can divide in even smaller incomplete party.

Reminds me in a way of some of the PvP was in Ragnarok, and that was a blast I was never really good at all in pvp. Probably because I'm not very competitive and I almost always play a support/healer class that gets obliterated in two seconds lol. But I still actually had a lot of fun with it. I would enjoy this getting implemented!

This isn't the case on plenty of servers, Frontlines queue's in under 10 mins. on Coeurl during almost any normal part of a gamer's day.

Also, won't necessarily replace PVP queues... I hardly see it changing them at all as it's something PVP'rs can do while queued up or when they'd otherwise decide to quit doing Frontlines for a while anyway.

I can tell you exactly why I don't want more PvP, It WILL inadvertently screw over pve.

every mmo ive played has outright ruined certain classes in pve for pvp balance, there were entire expansions where I had to level new classes because due to pvp balance, the one I was playing was completely useless. Remember warrior in 2.0? Just like that.

Except those MMO's didn't create PVP-specific additions, balance, changes, & mechanics like ARR does. Your argument doesn't apply to this game, do not fear!

This' the first MMO I've played that figured out how to appropriately keep the two separate.

Don't fret, your precious PVE is safe in this suggestion.

Make Carteneau Plains Open-World, enterance via Wolf's Pier (which is already there). make layers of defense (Gates) at our starting bases and invadable after a period of time, add fates, resource gathering quests/dailies, Capture points that are teleportable to (if controlled by our faction), make our PVP stuff not useless, etc. and Bam! call it a day!

People would be out zerging, camping, and all that bullcrap that makes you turn into a raging-basement dwelling-hardcore-keyboardwarrioring PVPer deluxe!

I would totally LIVE in that zone! lol
