Chocobo Dye Experimentation

I posted this in the Reddit thread, but here are some of my results after feeding it enough to get 1 message:

Dalamud Red + Berry = Regal Purple
Regal Purple + Berry = Royal Blue
Royal Blue + Pineapple = Regal Purple
Regal Purple + Apple = Dalamud Red
Dalamud Red + Pear = Regal Purple
Regal Purple + Pear = Russet Brown

I sort of ended up going around in a circle. That fifth result isn't a typo either, somehow when I tried to "deepen the green hues" of Dalamud Red, it turned Regal Purple.

Lotus Pink is:
Default -> Doman Plum -> Snow White -> Valfruit -> Lotus Pink.

I just fed my currant purple chocobo 2 pears and got the growth message after each- really hoping to hit soot black also... will know in 5 1/2 hours ; ;

Pity you didn't wait between feather procs. Would be very valuable to know what the colour -between- Currant Purple and Soot Black is. If anyone knows, please share!

So far my findings, based on 1 type of fruit feedings, have filtered down to this:

"Plumage will change in 6 hours" does NOT indicate a colour change. (why does this text exist?)

Is beginning to grow new feathers!" message indicates that your chocobo will change colour. Is being called 'feather proc' by most now.

Taking out your chocobo during the 6 hour waiting period will end the process and not result in a colour change.

The amount of fruit is irrelevant. Feed 1 type of fruit until 'feather proc' is received. Your chocobo will then change colour.

There is more than 1 way to get to a colour.

There is definitely RNG involved. Your 'feather proc' can RNG (RNG feather proc?) and you can receive a colour that is either 'uncommon' or you can skip a step (when using 1 type of fruit).

I know this because I would loop to Regal purple if I gave berries at Blood Red and vice versa if I gave an apple to Regal purple.

I completely misread your post. What colour are you aiming for?

Want to make my way to Wine Red.

I've found that Dalamud Red + Pear = Blood Red and Dalamud Red + Apple = Blood Red. I'm trying to do one fruit at a time so I'm just going to keep playing around with it, one pear from blood red gave me the new feather message earlier this morning.

I know this because I would loop to Regal purple if I gave berries at Blood Red and vice versa if I gave an apple to Regal purple.

That's strange considering I went nothing-but-apples from Desert Yellow, hit Blood Red, fed 40 more apples and didn't hit anything. Anyway, I'm in the process of getting to Blood Red again to retry that with 70+ apples.

Yeah, that's been on my spreadsheet for a while. O'Ghomorro Berry is not the way to Wine Red after the red shades from the Apple colour tree. My guess it's also not from the Mamook Pears because I've gotten a response that someone went Blood Red -> Mamook Pear -> Qiqirn Brown. Only one response like that so I'm curious to see what your result is.

This is consistent with the information I've received and found. Blood Red seems to be the end of the line of the Apples.

Little Update on what I'm doing. Last night, I fed a lemon and started back up the apple route. I successfully skipped to Sunset Orange overnight. Now I just got the new feather message to land on Blood Red. Total 34 Apples to Blood Red this time, which is only 1 shy of last time.

After Blood Red in 6hrs, I plan to fed 70+ apples (maybe more depending on AH price) in an attempt to hit a rumored high lvl red color w/e it may be. If that does not work, I will looking into a route to Wine Red same as Zomb. Which will probably involve Valfruit from a Red color I haven't decided on yet.. either Blood, Dalamud, or Rolanberry.

So apparently Dalamud Red + Pear = Blood Red AND Blood Red + Pear = Dalamud Red. This is a weird system.
