While I do believe that the process is not strictly based on the RGB values of desired color, there are two reasons that analyzing these types of changes must provide some sort of insight:
    • First, the fruit explicitly describe themselves and changing the Red, Green, and Blue values of the feathers, in that order. The developers, or at the very least, the translators must have been thinking along those lines or they would not have phrased it in that way.
    • Second, I am a computer scientist by trade, and I can tell you for sure; my ilk are lazy by nature. Math and formulas based on known factors are easier to make a computer understand than some complicated graph of relationships. It is infinitely simpler to say
      Code:
      newColor = currentColor - deepenBlueValues;
      newColor = FindClosestColor(newColor)
than to try to represent the colors like "If this color and deepenBlue then go to this other color" for every color.
I don't believe that it is as simple as "one fruit equals minus this much red", but the trends could reveal quite a bit. My observations of your data, AttacKat, is that despite the Berries causing Deepen Blue, the most consistent and predictable trend is that it lowers the red channel along a smooth(ish) linear scale. Both the Blue and Green channels are relatively unpredictable. This may have more to do with the available approximate colors than anything else. It would be interesting to see if only using Berries after shifting to a different spectrum - say predominantly blue - would have the same effects.

Calling out to VOLUNTEERS on: EXODUS

Just a heads up to the thread, I have about 5-6 friends from various FCs who are going to be kind enough to let me record data. Some are willing to try different experiments to achieve either same colors or even new colors we haven't tried yet! I'm going to keep tabs on their data, and they're going to allow me to create spreadsheets for them as well!

So, I'm calling out to other folks on Exodus! If you don't feel like recording your data, setting up a spreadsheet, or posting to this thread or others. Look me up! I'll gladly record the data for you, and I'll put it in the thread/create a spreadsheet.

Also going to go out and toss this up, if you need Soil/Seeds/Fruits, I'm willing to do trades/farm up what you need. I would prefer to trade Fruits for Seeds/Soil, if you're so inclined! Or if you want to simply experiment with your own bird to help us out with data, I'll be happy to supply you with fruits/soils/fertilizer under the understanding that you be meticulous with your data!

Thanks everybody! Off to record more data!!

Did you only feed your bird 2 berries in that one sitting?

Yes. And only the 2nd one gave the growing new feathers message.

    My Chocobo

starting: Desert Yellow: fed 5 Valfruit =>1st new feathers msg => Result: Salmon Pink
starting: Salmon Pink: fed 2 Valfruit =>1st new feathers msg => Result: Rose Pink
starting: Rose Pink: fed 2 Apples => 1st new feathers => fed 1 Apple => 2nd new feathers msg => fed 1 Apple => 3rd new feathers msg => fed 1 Apple => 4th new feathers msg => fed 1 Apple Result => 5th new message msg => stopped feeding => Result: Coral Pink
starting: Coral Pink: fed 12 Berries => 1st new feathers msg => Plum Purple
starting: Plum Purple: fed 3 Berries => 1st new feathers msg => Regal Purple ( my guess is Gloom Purple, so we will see how I fare on that- update: I was wrong!)

So, in total so far, I have lighten green for 2 "new feather" msg, then deepen red for 5 "new feather" msg, and deepen blue for 2 "new feather" msg.

    Friend's Chocobo

    Desert Yellow to start
1 Apple (NO new feather msg). Result: No Change
3 Apples (stopped at first new feathers msg). Result: Millioncorn Yellow
8 Apples (NO new feathers msg). Result: No Change

EXPERIMENT; SOOT BLACK (Darkening Fruits Only)

So, good friend of mine decided that since I was trying to achieve the Soot Black color with only Lightening snacks that he'll attempt to do it with only Darkening snacks! Set up a spreadsheet for him, he's going to keep me up to date with the information provided, and I'll update it as necessary.

    Sky, Exodus
    Attempting: Soot Black
    Chocobo Rank: 8

    1st 6hr // Stable : Good
Fed 3 O'Ghomoro Berries >> Growing New Feathers!
Fed 1 Apple >> Growing New Feathers!

    Waiting.
    Spreadsheet can be found here!

Not that I think it's related to the chocobo dyeing themselves, I'm going to include Weather/Time just for more accurate information. On both mine and other's posts. Can include links to the chat logs, but including that information on the spreadsheet anyway. Also worth noting, that we're only going so far as the "growing new feathers!" message appears. We're not doing further than that, on any testing ground.

The spreadsheet I'm collecting data for is up.

Going through this thread now to find posts listing the number of feather procs, I've gone through most of the other thread and only found a handful.

Hopefully this helps someone test if matching the same number of procs is the important thing. I'll get to adding images of the chocobos later today or tomorrow as I don't think that's the most important thing atm.

Edit: Finished going through this thread. Anything that was worded a little iffy wasn't included.

So, are you saying you got 1 new feathers message for the set of 5 valfruits or that you got a new feathers message for each individual valfruit within the set of 5?
