Monks have the best sustained single target dps.

Black Mages have the best AoE dps.

Warriors are the best for PvP; they just have so much shit going for them, I don't even want to get into it.

The best speed run party is: PLD, WHM, BLM, BLM. A good WAR can work just as well. BRD can sub in for a BLM, not as optimal but decent enough. Also, I have no idea where this idea that BRD has great AoE dps came from, they DO NOT. They are Requiem whores, if they do not requiem than their spot is better taken by a MNK or DRG, who DO have better AoE damage as long as you have BLM (Melee AoE DPS plummets if the fight drags on for too long cuz they run of TP fast). Two melees do pretty well as long as they BOTH know how to AoE, but chances are, they don't.
