Why the burden of putting together a party the long, slow, and old-fashioned way is on the new players is a mystery to me. All I hear is bitter old farts complaining about new players and wanting them to get off their damn lawn.

It's the same as telling them to learn in DF, since they get all newbies usually as well, for like Titan.
