I just think you're silly, there's nothing wrong inherently with an item that doesn't drop the problem is players who don't have the maturity to get over the fact that their friend got a thing before they did.

Oh come on, your single argument here is "someone may get the drop quicker than someone else" why shouldn't I extrapolate that to the lottery? How is it different?

You're the one throwing around the word "broken" because you didn't get drops. You're the one essentially dismissing any sort of low odds RNG as unfair. You're the one who made literally a complaint against chance itself, now you're screaming straw-man because extrapolating your statements about RNG to other games of chance makes you look ridiculous.

That is just about the very definition of a welfare reward. You have completely separated reward from effort or skill and base it on a random factor.

I can't believe we have gotten to such a low point in gaming where people are actually defending the idea that gear is now just given out by lottery! No shame these days. Line up, hit the level 20 piñata to see if you get your rewards!

That coupled with the fact that people love to have something others don't. Like a group of cave men only a select few know how to make fire, but why share the method when they can keep it for themselves.

There is a distinct subset of posters that (likely have benefitted from this garbage design)... that are in the appalling circumstance of arguing that it is desirable for high end quest rewards to be given at random to anyone swinging a weapon around in nooby level content.

They are doing this, while trying to call others "lazy" and "casual" among other things. I am frankly shocked that a Final Fantasy community has come to the point where there are people trying to advocate for this kind of gaming - while also managing to pretend that it is somehow "hard core".

Hey, you're right! Why bother arguing with them... it seems that enough customers have responded that SE is going to listen. SE seems to have realized it was a mistake- I guess if people want to try to defend an abandoned idea... then indulging them is a waste of time.
