In XI gear swapping was never intended to be used to the extent they were. It was intended more to be useful when you switch jobs etc. Besides, unless you used windower which SE did not condone it was a nightmare. However, the battered housewives club that only played XI will argue otherwise.

every argument in this thread is all the same 20pages all the same reasons, simple thing is all the problems should have been fixed rather then scrapping gear swaps all together. if it was all made easy to do you'd like it. the main reason for anyone who is for the gear swaps is probably only cause it made for more nm's to hunt and more gear to collect. i liked having 3-5pieces of gear for every slot. im sure half of you smile when u see new gear slots added in games that never were there like i do. we got 22, i'd like more. simple. right now we can't even gear half of them and with slot point completely ruins it.

Do you even read the posts about the people who are against it or are you also blind? I'm not the only one who's against it.

    2 things:

    1. Of all the moronic things I've seen and done, this has to be the most stupid thing I've heard of. I should know, I'm a regular contender of the local 'Village Idiot Awards' (never won). I doubt that Marlboro is gonna hold its breath (or tentacles if your fighting it as a Miqo'te, pervy ***) while you change clothes. I like how it is now its as much about preparation before battle than during, that way you don't get caught with your pants down.

Weeble actually just made one of the most valid points of this thread. Gear swaps are not bad or cumbersome, just the methods in which they are implemented.

Who here can argue against gear swapping or gear sets if it is made easy to implement? Who could possibly argue against having MORE gear to suit many differing roles with which to take on MORE content in fun and varying styles... how can that ever be a bad thing.

I loved swapping gear and making macros to make each ability you used the most effective it could be based upon all the work you have done aquiring said gear to make you truely elite. being able to do the same damage as everyone else is boring. with the game having little diversity in it as it has that would set apart players somewhat.

The only change would obviously have to be the addtion of satchels or bags to hold more inventory. because as it sits, its impossible to do that with the limited inventory space.

This can be said for anything and still be valid, AoE toggle for instance.

I'm not arguing against more gear just the stupidity that is 'gear swapping'. Sure set yourself up before you enter battle but during, who in their right mind would do that. I know of a guy, Mad Jack Churchill, on the Normandy landings of WWII he jumped forward from the landing craft, played on some bagpipes then threw a hand grenade at a bunker. That's just one of the crazy things he did but I know he never changed his outfit halfway up the beach.

I've seen nothing but horrible things from 'Elitism' and only ever seen it create schisms in communities. The fact there's a penalty for swapping gear whilst engaged just shows the old (possibly new) dev team's position on it.

I agree on the Bags/Satchels, you know the saying 'two great minds think alike'? well try a few dozen. Also thought about the old school immunities to bad status effects given by accessories and the like

it can be a bad thing without more inventory space, I already have 80ish spots dedicated to gear. I don't want gear swaps to be expected or I'll have no room for drops.

But seriously, this isn't Sailor Moon Online.
That line made my day. Also ends the thread rather conclusively if you ask me.

My opinion of gear swaps? Rather than it being a part of the original game design, I see it as more of a symptom of the flaw in XI gear itemization, rather than something that was purposely designed in. Notice how later gears are "multi-purpose"? And how prior to Abyssea, most gear were so situational that at best you wore them for the span of 3 seconds every minutes?

The best part about gear swaps? You can't do them well without third party tools. You can either fill up half your macro bars with gear swap lines, or you can suck it up and use the Windower, which would then cause console players to cry about unfair exploits. On top of that, you now have several sets of gear competing for inventory space, which honestly isn't something that's needed. As it stands, I already have more than enough gear for my crafts, gathering, mage, and physical classes to fill half of my bag, the rest going to crafting mats. I have no desire at all to further fill up that space with gear that I'm only going to wear less than 10% of combat time just so I can have that minor boost in WS or spell damage.
