That would be much better than the current system. You could run FATEs for an hour and expect to actually experience some progression, rather than either being successful (and it's relief I feel, not elation) or feeling like you've just wasted your time.I'd suggest multiplying the drop rate by X times, and then requiring X "Atma Shards" in order to piece together the full Atma. It's still RNG and it's still grinding, but it should help reduce the raw RNG dickery at play here. Alternatively, you can have the certainty of "Atma Shards" dropping every time, but the quantity per FATE is randomized to ~1-4 instead of a flat value (because Skinner Box).
My experience for you all.
I obtained 3 atmas relatively quickly, not spending more than 2 hours in Eastern Than, Central Than, Southern Than respectively.
Western Thanalan however, I've been at it for over 15 hours and have done hundreds of fates here. Still no atma of the twins.
I am a hardcore gamer by definition so grinding does not bother me, actually I love it! The myth books I actually look forward to. However, this RNG is absolutely disgusting design, as I have been grinding level 5 fates and am getting rewarded in nothing but a repair bill.
Also, I have friends that have spent half the time grinding fates and already have their atma relic weapon. A friend of mine got the full thing in 7 hours. Working as intended? I hope not. It would make more sense for the quest to require 50 fates done per zone or something. At least give the players a sense of accomplishment as they go, make it feel like they're making progress.
can't . do . any . more . fates . please . make . new . content . please .

There's a lot of good points made in this thread but if you go back to the 1st page and read what Naoki Yoshida wrote you'll see he makes a good point. But then Naoki Yoshida wrote a good counter argument to that and got me, Naoki Yoshida, thinking. If SE took what Naoki Yoshida said and find a way to combine that with what Naoki Yoshida wants and add in some of what Naoki Yoshida just wrote we could have a really fun yet time consuming relic upgrade system.
No need to shoot anyone o.o It's just a game, and the rest of the relic quest is quite good. I also like the rest of the patch, especially the one of the new trials, and the story leading up to it (won't say which for spoilers). So funny, and greatly refreshing.
See, I don't actually mind relics taking a long time to get. I don't even mind that maybe all my jobs aren't gonna have one and I should focus on which jobs I want to have them first. I just want trackable progression. If it -has- to include the FATE system that means giving us a set amount of FATEs to do per zone, specific FATEs to do, greatly increasing the drop chance for Atmas, or having drop chance increase each time it fails to drop.
Big lol to the poster above me. Naoki_Yoshida does indeed make many good points! He seems to be talking in circles though![]()
So I finished the Atma grind, and here are my thoughts. It took me around 500 fates or so, and I think the amount of time I put into it was fine, but how I was spending that time was mind numbingly boring. The book upgrade portion of it, I'm totally fine with. They aren't too difficult, there's a good amount of different types of work you need to buy and complete the book. And I like the art in the books too, it just looks cool.
However... the part that I hated more than anything else is the complete lack of any upgrade you get when you actually finish your Atma. The iLvl goes up, but the stats don't change? All that work and you get 0 reward. That's the worst part. You spend all that time, and you don't' get anything for it. I should have just did Leviathan EX 100 times in the same time period and gotten an i100 weapon that way.
The funny thing is: Those who say it should not be handed over, mostly are leaving after secund wipe, play only in their static and do not help others expect it is for their own gain (gilbonus or such)......something that is handed to you...![]()
i started a petition on the feedback section of the forums to ask that drop rate be increased, please fee free to drop a post if you agree this should be fixed
