^^ Describes sooooo many people lol.

The problem I see with the current system is that the longer a player spends grinding out fates, the longer they spend not doing the other content that was in this patch and in the rest of the game. Now, I am not saying that these things should have been just handed to us, however I do think that there was certainly a better way to go about this gathering.

Isn't that the design intent? To draw out the length that content can last players? The problem I see with the current system is that the longer a player spends grinding out fates, the longer they spend not doing the other content that was in this patch and in the rest of the game. Now, I am not saying that these things should have been just handed to us, however I do think that there was certainly a better way to go about this gathering.
That is why a lot of people are not happy with this design choice. It is obvious the developers wanted to artificially extend the life of content-this is not always a terrible thing- not if it feel like an organic part of the experience.
However, transparent and inorganic barriers to gameplay are inelegant and clumsy design that create negative user experiences. This game has been full of them. However, the new element of randomness to the barrier has exceeded the threshold of tolerance for many players.
It really confuses me how they can have such beautiful graphic artists, generally great gameplay, and fairly bland systems- but functional and fairly balanced- and yet be failing so badly at content development. I have never seen a game with so much potential, beauty, and even in many ways stability that was making so many avoidable mistakes.

One thing I think IS good about upgraded relic, is the second part of the quest....the books. Now they have a definite set of challenges where you can go and do stuff...and that's ticked off that you've done it. Not this pointless "will I get it" farce that is the first part. If only they'd made the first quest books as well...cheaper ones, or even dropped ones from the HM dungeons if they're that keen on RNG. At least that way you KNOW a book is going to drop if you do the dungeon, even if it's not yours, go run the dungeon again, and you are also earning myth and soldiery/getting drops for alts/mats/potions etc. plus a decent amount of gil. THAT is the way they should have done it.

That said, screw atmas, POS design, fix it now, etc. I don't even begin to have the time for this crap.

^^Love the sig! =-)

This would be me you are referring to, and yes I KNOW I have horrible luck, that is why I tend to avoid games, and other relaxation time things that are purely based on luck. 115 fates (in western thanalan) since patch dropped and zero atmas.
(side note: Dealing with a RNG is not making you a better player, just a more persistant one)

At work, I call it persistence....when I was in school I called it that...when I played sports... persistence... when I play a video game: tediousness. =-(This would be me you are referring to, and yes I KNOW I have horrible luck, that is why I tend to avoid games, and other relaxation time things that are purely based on luck. 115 fates (in western thanalan) since patch dropped and zero atmas.

I guess I consider persistence to be anywhere that you believe your dedication will pay off with something that is worth the time invested, that will help you grow as a person. I've never really applied it to entertainment. I certainly am not persistent in watching movies- I walked out of Twilight in the first 15 minutes....I guess I am NOT a "leet" Twihard....
Unfortunately, FATES don't even help make you a better player =-(

I wanted the new relic quest to be long, grindy and encapsulate many facets of the game.
Hunting logs
Guildhests
Grand Company missions
Crafting
Leves
Primals
A Relic Reborn did this to a certain degree and I expected Zodiac to take it even further. Instead we get mindless FATE zerging? The one feature of the game everybody hates. C'mon SE...
