As many posters before have stated, yes a chocobo is simply said a "mount", and dynamis, limbus, sky etc. qualify as "dungeons/raids". So why this antipathy against these terms ?

Because, for me at least, a chocobo is more than just a mount, and dynamis, limbus, sky etc. could not be generalised under that one and single term "raid" because of the fact that they were way too different events and unique in their atmosphere, rules, strategic approaches needed, etc.

When Devs and Producer's letters (don't forget those are PR actions and should make you at least dream a little) refer to "raids" and "mounts", it isn't the terminology in itself that I dislike, it's what it could imply, a loss of diversity and uniqueness of the FF universe. For example : "chocobos" = implies possible chocobo races ? or digging ? or can we summon them ? can we train them ? casinos maybe ? funny cutscenes ? and so much more, compared to a simple "mount". These terms just lack so much fantasy for a Final Fantasy title.

Now we have already received the hint that we will have "mounts" in form of our beloved chocobos and that they will have more functionalities than just the one of being a mount. I sincerely hope that what has been referred to as "raids" will also bear more to it, maybe also leading to having them named differently after more content is added making them impossible to be regrouped under that one single term "raid". So we'll just have to wait for the future updates to see.
Yes, because AQ40, ZA, Kara, and Naxx were totally identical. . .

Dude, these people are afraid of a WORD. They sound almost like crazy grandpas.

The MMO terminology has chanced since FFXI's prime. It's just WORDS, people.

Asking them not to use the words 'raid' is like asking first person shooters not to use the words 'gun'.

For your information; Yoshi's first post on the job system was that he found it important to bring back Final Fantasy terminology, such as paladin, white mage, dragoon, monk, and so on.

Words may seem minoot to people these days, however words are a portion of what drives lore in a game, and Final Fantasy XIV is really struggling in that department. Words and terms are the basis from which everyone attaches stigmas, the term "raid" is too general and generic we need something to bring back Final Fantasy XIV's immersion into the intended developed universe.

From day one i have felt Final Fantasy XIV has been suffering from the western MMORPG disease.

Usually I would agree with opinions like this. But I think you have to realise that FFXIV is an artistic game that prides itself on literary flare and rich lore. The modern MMO terminologies would encroach upon FFXIV's artistic view and make it generic, I feel.

oh, and as for lure, i think they are using the world raid so when they stamp it on the box "raids" everyone will be like wow it has raids. Although many traditional FF fans may dislike this they may be trying to broaden their player base. Im not saying i ant the game full of wow fan-boys or anything but this is how i am interpenetrating there decision to use the word.
