She speaks the truth you know...I don't get how people playing XIV could talk crap on XI players, when without them there wouldn't be XIV, they wouldn't of even though of making XIV without a moderately successful previous mmo. XI is still running and has run for almost a decade. There are things I absolutely hate about that game but XI was million times greater than this game, I'm sorry people can't handle not spamming endlessly, and like not partying until they hit max level. XI was directly inspired by EQ and the party based concepts in EQ were heavily in XI. People want that back, there is barely an mmo where partying is important. So if we talk about XI like its effing god father of mmos its because XI was the last great game in a lineage of harder party based mmos. It was literally EQ and then FFXI. EQII was easier. So what should we talk about like its the godfather or grandfather of mmos? WoW? RIft lol. DAoC? AoC? GW? No, EQ and FFXI, because they were directly based off of MUDs and they are revolutionary to MMOS. That's just history so read up or shut up, no one cares about the half garbled crap that mmos are now a days unless you're 15 get over it.

As many posters before have stated, yes a chocobo is simply said a "mount", and dynamis, limbus, sky etc. qualify as "dungeons/raids". So why this antipathy against these terms ?
Because, for me at least, a chocobo is more than just a mount, and dynamis, limbus, sky etc. could not be generalised under that one and single term "raid" because of the fact that they were way too different events and unique in their atmosphere, rules, strategic approaches needed, etc.
When Devs and Producer's letters (don't forget those are PR actions and should make you at least dream a little) refer to "raids" and "mounts", it isn't the terminology in itself that I dislike, it's what it could imply, a loss of diversity and uniqueness of the FF universe. For example : "chocobos" = implies possible chocobo races ? or digging ? or can we summon them ? can we train them ? casinos maybe ? funny cutscenes ? and so much more, compared to a simple "mount". These terms just lack so much fantasy for a Final Fantasy title.
Now we have already received the hint that we will have "mounts" in form of our beloved chocobos and that they will have more functionalities than just the one of being a mount. I sincerely hope that what has been referred to as "raids" will also bear more to it, maybe also leading to having them named differently after more content is added making them impossible to be regrouped under that one single term "raid". So we'll just have to wait for the future updates to see.

I know these things because I am awesome, my opinion has more carry than anybody else who has an opinion, people who have an opinion that is exactly like mine do not count because that opinion isn't coming from me directly. My 1 gil is worth more than your 1 gil.
I must agree with the OP in general - while I think its a bit nit-picky to focus on the terms themselves, the basic idea I agree with. This is Final Fantasy XIV, not a generic SE mmo - it needs to live up to the name as FFXI did.(unfashionable as it is to reference that game for some around here) Raids, mounts, etc. - bland, generic content added without lore, elaborate plot lines, immersion, or any FF style beyond the superficial - just creates a shallow, ineffective copy of industry standards. SE has proven incredibly inept at actually implementing even the simplest of these standards, they need to focus on getting the Final Fantasy part right so that it offers some kind of unique appeal. You can't out-WoW WoW, the industry needs to accept this fact at some point and embrace their own niches, no game is ever going to be as good as WoW trying to do what WoW does in the foreseeable future.
I think they did mention you're required to do some questing to access the dungeons, so I expect them to have some lore and story behind them.
