Like I said, you just fail to see that the game you're asking for can't exist correctly. Square designed the game to be mission-reward based because it gives people a clear goal to reach. Adding Open World mechanics to that clashes by design, unless they're made to fit in, which is probably not what you're asking for because you'd probably call it too easy.
So what exactly is your definition of hardcore and casual. Open world content or non expiring content that offers my enjoyment to be had with friends (we do play multiplayer games to socialize still right (I ask because so many complain about dealing with others). I am not a progression player thats why I didnt care about 2.2 all that much for myself. I do care that content is being left to sit in the playerbase hands for long periods of time leaving groups from all camps to quit because only 1 group is being heavily favored. Why cant we have open world content just like we have instances would that hurt either party ? Why cant we have the fun little fluff items like minion collecting and mount collecting. Does someone elses experience of fun ruin your own. Give the hardcore players a stick to chase at its no different than having an HM version vs an EX version of the primals some will enjoy the challenge level of HM some will enjoy it of EX (though I think tying these to the story was utter stupidity because some of us just want to jump around and have fun with the sylphs) why should a person who is only capable of HM level difficulty deny those who want to do EX ? Why would open world content take away from your instanced content ?sounds like you want to be catered to rather than the playerbase as a whole being catered to.
