I had fun with this the other day.

Someone in my LS I joined - with whom I have never played - was asking if it would be good to get his Relic +1 or go for some more armor instead. Found out he was (a) newer to MMOs in general, (b) never played a tank before (it was a PLD he was asking about) and (c) was having issues being booted from dungeons "as a bad tank".

I asked him about aggro issues, and he said that was his main situation. Saw his gear and he was basically an i80 PLD. So, instead of asking him what he did in dungeons, I changed to WHM, partied with him, cued up, and went into WP.

We paired with two i85+ DPS, melee and BLM. I told them right away that this was purely a training run, may take the whole time, and if they aren't willing to wait for it all, they should leave. Both responded they actually had no problem with that and stuck with it.

In the beginning, he could only hold 1 of the first two TBs without me or a DPS pulling one away. So, a little direction, and that wasn't an issue with those 2 mobs.

Well, about 45 minutes later, NO ONE could pull aggro from the PLD even with 7 mobs on him at once. In fact, that was the last training example: "Ok you two DPSes, do whatever you can to pull aggro of any mob off of him. Let's see if he can do it." And me included in that with overhealing and DPSing.

I'm not trying to put myself in the limelight; its a point of some of these so called "bad players" are given some personal direction that doesn't take a lot of time and effort if done right, and as a result, find out that they can actually do their role quite easily. OF COURSE they have to be willing to learn, and also don't treat them like they're ass-hats. If the last two points are in, you may find yourself with another great co-player when you want to team up.

Maybe 45 minutes is an extreme case. Maybe it is too much to ask of people in general. But the way I see it, I took someone who actually started hating tanking in general, felt like he was letting a LOT of people down, and turned him inside out to the point where he's rocking it. Besides, we need more effective tanks who like that role. Now we have at least one more!

TL;DR: Someone as a tank had pretty much given up tanking. 45 minutes later, going through WP, he was turned into a beast. If you train them, they will be awesome. Try it once. You may find it fun.

I think dailies have really caused a lot of people to become very impatient. Vets don't like getting couple with newbies randomly through duty finder.

But everyone was a newbie at once. I started playing in September. I remember most everyone in a dungeon would be new or not so burnt out on it that all they cared about was getting through it ASAP and having no time for talking to anyone.

Also, no one was bothered by newbies watching cutscenes.

So many vets now tell newbies, save your cutscenes for your inn room. Well that takes the cutscene out of the context of what you are about to run.

I find it hypocritical that some vets insist they don't have time for newbies watching cutscenes and that they absolutely should not except in their in room. Yet didn't the vets watch the cutscenes when first running the dungeons seemingly so long ago? So I guess newbies now don't deserve the same experience as newbies back at the beginning? :/

Nope. Most of them skipped them their first time too. The ones wanting to force skipping that is.

I haven't run into that at all yet. If I did to be perfectly honest I would just ignore it and watch the cinematics regardless. If that bothers them then they can kick me but like you said they watched them in context at one point as well I don't see why just because I'm new I should have a lesser experience because they don't have any patience. When I do the roster and I get into the duties that I've already been through and even newer players than me have cinematics I just wait for them to finish. I try to pay it forward.

Kudos for you mister. If I could give a commendation through the forum, you would have mine!

[Sarcasm]45 min? Are you out-of-your-mind? "They" want to run a complete dungeon in less than 5 minutes![/Sarcasm]

It's very hard to define a player, good or bad, based upon your own experience.

Some peeps play on PS3, and I heard from them it's not easy to type in chat.. Imagine during a Coil run..

Others were saying: Sorry my cat just jumped on me.. brb my kid just woke up.. etc..

You need to understand that there's a HUMAN being that monitor.. that has a real life..

Some people wants to play to vent from their work. Casually.. others will be Hardcore to the bone.. both are ok, it creates a community..

If it takes me 5 tries to catch upon a mechanic of a Trial/Dungeon/Whatever, vs others that wants you to "know what you are doing else you're kicked out, and you shall be tested blablabla"

How can you get the experience from it if you never did it in the first place? o.O

If that's what's a bad player to you guys, then I don't think the problem is bad players. Let them get experience, help them getting where you can count on them, and then you will have found a new mate to bring into your missing static member.. (and cutscenes are ok to watch for the first time.)

*I wonder how many of you actually communicate into instances.. oh no wait! SRs you can't type, come on, you are lacking DPS.. I have to run it x Times before reaching my Animus in 24 hours!

TD;DR - I don't pretend to be an Elite, just your average joe. If someone ask for help, and I can provide it, they'll receive it from me.
