Apparently if you are someone who looks up a fight before hand, try to min/max their characters, use food buffs when needed, or do any sort of research into the game - you get crucified by the community and are told to lighten up and enjoy the game.
So many wise players on these forums.

I have compassion for people who struggle but still ask questions, try their hardest, and look up information on the internet.
I have no compassion for the guy not saying anything, is playing horribly, and holds back the rest of the group.
If I die in any game, first thing I do is check logs to see what killed me. If nothing is there, I ask my group.
No answer? Well its not like every game in existence doesn't have some sort of online community for discussion/FAQs/Guides.
I haven't played a video game in which I am the only one who has experienced an issue and there has been no answer for it online.
Compassion isn't conditional; either you want to help someone just because, or you don't. Like I said, some players have it, others don't. I can tell when people aren't putting forth an effort; when they haven't prepared for content; but that doesn't mean I won't say anything to help them. All that does is hurt yourself in the end. If you can explain a fight or recommend food buffs or a different rotation for their class, why wouldn't you? If helping someone improve really ruins your gaming experience, I'm sorry. If I can help someone, I will. I don't expect every other player to act the same way; that is ridiculous.I have compassion for people who struggle but still ask questions, try their hardest, and look up information on the internet.

It depends on what I'm trying to do. Sometimes teaching is an all night affair while I'm trying to get things done.
But I am selective. It's obvious when a player makes no real effort to learn then I feel like why should I spend time to help someone that doesn't help himself? Like players that wear level 5 gear in a level 30 raid.
My whole point was that players make it out like helping is some kind of OBLIGATION which as a person who helps out often, I think is wrong.
I had fun with this the other day.Compassion isn't conditional; either you want to help someone just because, or you don't. Like I said, some players have it, others don't. Someone in my LS I joined - with whom I have never played - was asking if it would be good to get his Relic +1 or go for some more armor instead. Found out he was (a) newer to MMOs in general, (b) never played a tank before (it was a PLD he was asking about) and (c) was having issues being booted from dungeons "as a bad tank".
I asked him about aggro issues, and he said that was his main situation. Saw his gear and he was basically an i80 PLD. So, instead of asking him what he did in dungeons, I changed to WHM, partied with him, cued up, and went into WP.
We paired with two i85+ DPS, melee and BLM. I told them right away that this was purely a training run, may take the whole time, and if they aren't willing to wait for it all, they should leave. Both responded they actually had no problem with that and stuck with it.
In the beginning, he could only hold 1 of the first two TBs without me or a DPS pulling one away. So, a little direction, and that wasn't an issue with those 2 mobs.
Well, about 45 minutes later, NO ONE could pull aggro from the PLD even with 7 mobs on him at once. In fact, that was the last training example: "Ok you two DPSes, do whatever you can to pull aggro of any mob off of him. Let's see if he can do it." And me included in that with overhealing and DPSing.
I'm not trying to put myself in the limelight; its a point of some of these so called "bad players" are given some personal direction that doesn't take a lot of time and effort if done right, and as a result, find out that they can actually do their role quite easily. OF COURSE they have to be willing to learn, and also don't treat them like they're ass-hats. If the last two points are in, you may find yourself with another great co-player when you want to team up.
Maybe 45 minutes is an extreme case. Maybe it is too much to ask of people in general. But the way I see it, I took someone who actually started hating tanking in general, felt like he was letting a LOT of people down, and turned him inside out to the point where he's rocking it. Besides, we need more effective tanks who like that role. Now we have at least one more!
TL;DR: Someone as a tank had pretty much given up tanking. 45 minutes later, going through WP, he was turned into a beast. If you train them, they will be awesome. Try it once. You may find it fun.

Last few times I tried to NICELY offer advice (something like in garuda EX saying "hey if you dont know the pattern I can put a marker on me and you can just follow it to make it easier if you like") I got told to stuff it they pay they will play their way if I dont like it I can piss off. This isnt a one off its quite often too so I just stopped trying its not worth the aggrivation for a casual player like myself who just wanted to have fun.Compassion isn't conditional; either you want to help someone just because, or you don't. ask the gm that gave me 2 hours in jail for offering a blm that was struggling in t4 after the group disbanded. i got reported for harassing them by asking them questions to find out what they were doing to try and help them. since then i don't help anyone nor offer any assistance.Compassion isn't conditional; either you want to help someone just because, or you don't. edit: i need to add that i'm not saying i will not help, but what i am saying is i won't go out of my way to offer help anymore. if someone asks how to improve i'll spend hours helping them if that's what it takes, but i won't offer help to anyone that hasn't asked for it anymore.
since i went to jail for asking simple questions and stating things such as "on the aoe groups you can really increase your damage by using fire 2 instead of blizzard 3" i don't offer to help people unless they directly ask for help in shout, fc, ls, or say within hearing distance.
