Something that has a passive buff that negates a percentage of incoming damage and possibly reflects it back on the attacker with an enmity consideration. Give them some sort of self-healing that relies on inflicting damage, 10-15% damage leech. The flip side of the passive buff is they could set it much like Sword Oath to deal damage so that when they're not tanking they're still able to contribute. Maybe also have their self-heal return a small 5-10% heal to other party members in range or again let that have a choice between HP/MP/TP regen. I'd play a tank class like that without a moment's hesitation.
Sounds like a Dark Knight concept.
