Unless you add AA to sweetfx there is actually zero fps drop (well maybe 1).
Also, been using it for a while in other games and i have no idea what instability you are even talking about.
If you edit the settings file yourself and enable things such as Bloom and HDR then it will cause an FPS dip, maybe not a lot but it still does, and about the instability I've had it a couple times before, almost as if the game doesn't like a particular setting and it'll just crap out and not even make it to the title screen.
Furthermore, FXAA is blurry as hell and I don't consider SMAA as being proper anti-aliasing compared to say 8xMSAA which gives a much better overall image quality as the AA is executed during rendering instead of just being a less-than-accurate post-processed AA method a la SMAA... but unfortunately due to the nature of how FFXIV ARR renders its visuals it doesn't support forced MSAA![]()
Nothing about contrast is changed. I just toyed with bloom, hdr, and simply activated the vignette effect on sweetfx which basically darken the edges of the screen. Lightning is totally, absolutely different, Spells are much more noticeable when you actually use them, and textures are kinda more detailed too, you actually see the colors, which you just dont without the mod, because well it's absolutely bland.
This, pretty much.sweetfx can sharpen image, vanilla ARR looks way too blurry. Look at walls in #81 post.

The contrast is literally changed. I mean, by definition of what color and contrast is. Sharpening doesn't really add more detail. It creates more contrast between each individual color.Nothing about contrast is changed. This, pretty much.
Here is your original image:
Here I have increased normal saturation up by 80%:
Increased the saturation by around 20%:
And added one sharpening sweep:
And this is the image you took after adding SweetFX:
I don't know much about SweetFX's bloom option, but I gather it might be emphasizing white color to to give it more prominence, and thus more contrast.
Now I wouldn't say it makes it look bad by any means, but it is what it is. The effect achieved is mostly a result of contrast.

Yeah what I meant is that I didn't really toy with any contrast option that is labelled as such, because you can also do that ^^'
Just added HDR / Bloom from sweetfx, used luma sharpen (my bad, forgot that one), vignette and done.
Otherwise just look at this : http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post1916529
I mean, this game is absolutely not that graphical letdown everyone is about. And again, the only mmo I know that got it all graphic wise is The Secret World, but DX 11 and crazy detailed textures come with a price : 41 gb game. You can't do that on a PS3 I guess
FF XIV got an amazing scenery, an absolutely solid art direction, depth of field is pretty good too and on pc you can toy with rendering tools to make it look even better.
Btw, The Secret World, which got the heaviest usage of tesselation out there in a mmo + other visual cookies (aswell as beein the first to be TXAA friendly) :

Otherwise, the next big thing on both pc and console, for graphic nerds that like multiplayer, is called The Division

I do like that the game has gotten more detail in the world design. I just don't care for the lack of detail in the textures and models when compared to 1.0.
Also, I wish they'd chill on the glowy bits on all the end game gear. I find it a little obnoxious. The designers are capable of making some really lovely gear. They shouldn't need to rely on flashy gimmicks to make something look powerful.
