In theory, you are not even able to cut your video before the song ends. Cutting a song before the end is an alteration.
Following the same rule, you can't do an editing showing only parts of your footage, because the music will be cut in parts, and altering it is strictly prohibited.
So, yeah, even if you are right, the results of that policy are stupid on a human level. Maybe not according to the laws, but remember that laws are made by humans, for humans. Don't make them inhuman.
