1 raid that is stepping stone content and another lockout for drops, and a bunch of other crap I wasn't even talking about in the OP. Learn to read, please.
2.2, more tiers of coil, and yet another lockout! woo! >.> just.. stop
I actually hate how MMO's have become since Wow, and would like to change a lot of things entirely... But I do still enjoy playing some MMO's, FFXIV is one of them.
With that out of the way...
If you want to play an MMO with lots of raid content with good mechanics and stuff, then keep supporting the game, and try to enjoy something in it... or at least come back when it gets updated.
You will probably not see the kind of MMO you are searching for in the near future, because of how they are built. They all make this content-grind, which requires tons of content to keep players interested. When they are out of content, they leave, which means the game will never become good.

I made a post about my issue with raiding in 2.0 and I think this is what the OP is looking for in the revamped version of FFXIV.

FC Housing is a luxury that you EARN or WORK for.
Raid Content will come, chill. If it can't come soon enough, well then FFXI is still active (you're welcome to go back there) and/or this isn't the MMO for you at this time.

My problem is with the available content itself, not an achievement system.I made a post about my issue with raiding in 2.0 and I think this is what the OP is looking for in the revamped version of FFXIV.

That type of achievement system(not what's in place) is a type of content. It's not something you're used to but to those who have experienced it would agree that it takes raid content to a whole new level.

FFXI had that with Besieged andand Campaign, two events I really enjoyed and often participated in. For FFXIV, they could totally make a zone like that with the lost city-state of Ala Mhigo... you could have a zone like that where the different allied nations would own the area only so long as they could keep it defended against beastmen/garlean hordes.
Periodically you could have those forces try to retake the area; if they succeed, then everyone would have to massively group together to retake the zone. The benefits would be similar to what they did in FFXI: when Ala Mhigo is secured you would be granted access to shops/supplies/locations/NPCs that would inhabit the area... but when the enemy takes it back then it would revert to a hostile territory that grants none of those bonuses. One of the best parts is that you could contribute to the fight by yourself or with a larger self-made group... it was a lot more free-form in how a player could approach it.

"Well, it's no Vana'diel, but it'll have to do..."

Who is "we"? If you are speaking for yourself then speak for yourself, because you are certainly not speaking for me. Content id really like is challenging content, and it is content that I'm sure many will support the game for.The thing is, the game doesn't really need harder content. What it needs is content that can make someone say "I really liked that content and I'd be glad to support the game to see more of it." We want something that we can immerse ourselves in, which is different from raw challenge.
