-> Looks back at every other 'major mmo' I've played over the last 10 years.
-> notes with amusement the 6 - 12 monthly content patches compared with XIVs projected 3 monthly updates.
You know that was US players of 1.0 that demanded them to change the loot system right? We had several player polls and they changed or tweaked from what Us voted for. Everyone didn't like to farm endless every single day same dungeons for drop rates of 1-2% getting to a point of staying sometimes 1-4 weeks without seeing a single DL drop or worse trying to get the speed run chest for body was also other pain, it would take long or super lucky to get them. In my case took me over 400 runs and after 3-4 months to get my corselet for mnk and complete the set so yeah...
So what they decided to do? Make some 100% chance to get a item between 1-2 weeks and being locked for next week.
I could say some more stuff about pros and cons of this but no time to do it now. You got the idea.
You must not play mmorpg's ËVERY major mmo to date have lock outs on their endgame content...all mmo'sI love how people reason the lockouts "so that you don't complete the game in an hour..."
How about, you know, making more content and faster like any other major mmo does "so that you don't complete the game in an hour..."
That logic doesn't make sense for an MMO, by that logic, every MMO should have lockouts for anything ( > . >
If they made it harder, people would complain that it's too hard.
If they made it longer, people would complain it takes too much effort.
If they made it unlocked, people would get everything and complain there's nothing to do.
When people saying they should just add more content, they have... The last patch was literally a week ago. And it's hardly the developers fault when players spend unreasonable amounts of time playing and unlock everything instantly.
Not to say Square aren't flawless either. There are many glaring faults with the game that need to be fixed. Some irritating, some unacceptable. I won't defend them either just yet.
But a good reason they're locking this stuff is to limit these players. People can complain all they want, but they have content to aim for now... Content they're not going to complete within three days of non-stop farming, 75 cups of coffee and a urine bottle.
If they're unhappy, they're not forced to stay.

They already had to nerf Twintania for the majority to kill it. I believe there was one legit kill of Twintania before the nerf, and that was pretty close to when the nerf happened. Make it too hard, and the average player can never do it.
Id love a long difficult dungeon crawl. Unfortunately, people cry, piss and moan about a 25 minute Sastasha run .....
Can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink. once my raids are locked, i just go do other stuff. For some though, that 'other stuff' doesn't exist, JUST COILS ONLY COILS ALWAYS COILS.
No... the game is too hard already. A lot of people can't even get their relic... just look at Titan and Garuda HM on the DF.
And what is wrong with people playing how they want to play? How does it hurt you if someone has top tier gear in a week? It is purely an artificial content extender used to prolong sub fees. You mean, the same people who would spend a day running endless Coils for full i90 for every job, then unsub within the week if we didn't have lockouts... Lockouts are required to give meaning to gear not top tier. MMO's are about wasting time. If the game isn't wasting your time, it's not doing it right.
The trick is to be an entertaining waste of time. For me, XIV is that.
If all you want to do is the max level raids for the very best gear... go play a single player RPG, You'll likely get more entertainment value from it.
Lockouts don't give meaning to anything, challenge does.
We were the first to kill Ifrit.
Which MMO bring out new content each week?I love how people reason the lockouts "so that you don't complete the game in an hour..."

And you find lockouts in every MMO
