Amen. Best post I have read on this forum in a long long time. I hope SE reads this. This game heavily relies on Instant Kill Mechanics to make content difficult. Titan is the only fight IN THE ENTIRE GAME that has the possibility to completely remove you from the fight. On top of pretty much every action he does being an instant kill.
Constant dodging is not only trivial, but frustrating when if you screw up one time your done. I clear twintania weekly, and even twisters aren't as punishing as landslide. Sick of this being considered "fun" Content when half the people have difficulty getting out of ridiculous plumes. Please stop with all these instant kill mechanics that are way to over punishing.
Every developer, honestly - almost every game ever released involves mechanics listed. Remember pits in mario games? Spikes in Megaman games? Yeah instant death mechanics aren't new, just people being overly sensitive to it now.
XIV is your first MMO and that's ok - Because there's many MMOs with traps you can jump into that kills you instantly, same with large drops (which some boss arenas have.) It's just a sad time that people are overly sensitive to something that isn't new in gaming at all :\

Not in RPG games they weren't. I played nearly all of the earlier Final Fantasy games and never once were their pits or deadly traps on the ground I had to quickly dodge or I died instantly. And if there was, they were very rare and certainly not at the core of the over-all game play as is the case here.
So you are right in the sense these types of mechanics aren't new. But they were typically found in action/platform games. They weren't found in RPG games. And if they are going to start trying to turn RPGs into wannabe action games, it's time they re-named them to action games. Because when I buy an RPG game that's not the kind of game play I am expecting or want.
They already have ARPG's, and I think that's what we've got here now. FFXIV ARR is an MMOARPG, I also wish they would just call it such and advertise it as such. I'm here for now, I'll be around for awhile, but I am not deeply in love with it.Not in RPG games they weren't.
