It is more than pushing 1 extra button every 18 seconds. In most situations you had the opportunity to use it on more than 1 target. Then you had to weigh the cost of mana and DPS in each unique situations to determine if Thunder was worth casting on several targets, instead of doing something else entirely. In end-game content, you had to consider the mana consumption, because if you over-used it, it could run you out of mana. Since Bane spreads Bio2/Miasma/Bio, it is fairly brainless to have those up and spread the damage around that way, but where you go from there could be a complicated question depending on the situation. And if your goal was to squeeze every last DPS you could into an encounter, those decisions have to be made on the fly and almost instantly in order to perform well.

In short, it makes you actually think. Now its just like herpderp Bio2/Miasma/Bio/Bane then Ruin until you get bored.

@t0rin Yea I understand that much and I guess I can see why some would think it's been dumbed down. I didn't find it challenging to begin with so it's just w/e for me. I just enjoy pet jobs, always have since FFXI. That game was soooooo tough that I guess that's why I feel so chill with this one.

Less about difficulty, more about simply having to put some thought into your actions. Proper use of Thunder required thought and planning, now it is just plain easy.

I feel your pain on that, I just hope this doesn't drive off good summoners, I don't want our class pushed off and abandoned

And shadowflare you should ALWAYS use anyway.

Also never had much issue with mana, certainly don't have any now either.
The only problem with shadowflare use is the fact it has a long cast time and if they leave the AoE its basically useless, which on highly mobile bosses and mobs, that's quite a bit.

personally I find this update a huge nerf to smn DPS wise. It pushes having to take more time to lay everything down and then getting in close to pull off a miasma II, which for mages against a boss is usually a highly risky thing to do considering Mia II's short duration

Garuda EM is highly mobile and yet I always find myself using Shadowflare because I know where the tanks are moving to and I know what I'm supposed to do.
No reason not to use shadowflare.

And no, this patch is not a huge nerf to SMN DPS. Its a tiny little dps loss that any competent player can scoff at.
    I'm still king of DPS.

Titan extreme: I can break 2 gaols when the black mage is in and sometimes we wipe when I'm in gaols.

What high mobility bosses and mobs are you talking about? Most everything in this game gets tanked in a stationary position. Those that don't are mainly things that need to be temporarily kited, and who cares if shadow flare isn't useful for brief, temporary durations?

Why is getting close to a boss a highly risky thing? I get face to face with practically everything in the game. If you understand what it can do, why wouldn't you be able to? Even with contagion, Miasma 2 isn't great. It's barely more potency than a Ruin. If it is that big of a deal, simply don't do it, it will be an extremely minor loss of DPS.

This update was not a huge nerf at all. It was like a 7-9% nerf on single targets and the amount of DPS lost against multiple targets varies based on how long they stay alive, how many there are, etc. It was a nerf, but it was a minor one. The bigger nerf is in terms of playability, because the class got vastly easier.

Happened when I did coil T1 last night. Ran to Cadecus and Garuda looked like she was trying to escape. I mean it was a good laugh, but it's not right. They obviously messed something up when they changed everything around. Also I heard that SMN does magic damage to stoneskin now. Can anyone confirm this? It's the reason I come blm to T4!! If it's fixed, then that changes everything!

P.S. I too was having trouble with my rotation. I put Miasma II where Thunder used to be and I forgot about it until everytime I saw myself throwing up an AoE Virus globe around myself. Got a few laughs from the FC last night because of it. -_-

Totally Agree. If you found the changes a HUGE or ground breaking nerf or anything close to this I would like to point the problem in the direction of either your rotation and or your ability to know how and when to re-apply dots. The class is still spanking everyone else in DPS on boss fights.
