Everyone and their mom would take shield oath over defiance any day regardless if the skills are mathematically equal. As most of the discrepancy comes from if both classes suffer a double 4000 potency atk, a 8000 hp warrior would be dead, while a 6500 hp pld would survive not to mention the mental fatigue on healer when they see warrior health jump up and down.

Additionally you still have block which unlike parry reduces magic damage as well as physical. people seems to forgot how much block helps.
