    Basically this. Yeah FFXI did have its share of flaws...but if SE took the good parts from it (As they seem to have attempted with every game BUT ffxi -_-) this game would probably be a lot more fun have more to do. I am hoping in a year or so they see their mistakes and why people are bored...and by this time next year the game will start to get good. If not then I think that's when I'll finally give up on MMO all together lol...; ;

    While XI was an "EQ Clone" it still tried many different things incorporating it's own spin on not only the genre but style of MMO it was mimicking. Normally, isn't that what art is? All art in general is (tool of trade) on a canvas of some kind, like every single painter uses paint on a canvas, yet each one have their own types of "work of art" even if you don't fully comprehend why.

    This game already tried to be different in 1.0
    And it was rushed out the door when it was far from ready, 1.0 actually still have some ideas that would have made ARR far less.."been there done that" style they chose to go with.

    I think there's confusion on what people are expecting this game to be.

    When you heard ARR was going to be a Final Fantasy game first, "then" an MMORPG - Lots expected it to basically be a 100x better FFXI, which them taking FFIII and throwing it ontop of EQ. Here it feels like they threw FFII into a standard MMO mold without spinning..anything in a different direction. Whether or not you like that is your personal expectation, but when you play ARR after playing many recent MMOs...can you honestly consider people who found XI creative only because of nostalgia? Or because the obvious attention to detail XI shown truly was creative in comparison to the "tried and true model"? It was grindy, but so is ARR.

    Depends on how it's done. FF games share a lot of the same elements but they just change it up a bit I.E Materia vs License board. But with FFXIV they didn't do that instead got inspired by WoW.

    As someone that has been through every type of gaming stye (Played FFXI and LOTRO hardcore; played Diablo/playing PoE casual, and playing FFXIV in-between the 2 styles) I feel like there needs to be a reward for everyone. Not a reward that everyone can obtain, but rather scaled rewards that certain types of people can obtain. In FFXI, even though i played hardcore, there was certain things that I could not and would not ever obtain simply because I was not dedicated enough to get it. That is OK with me. I had reasonable expectations. I joined the game late, and never expected to get a Burtgang or Excalibur.

    In LOTRO, the game was much more accessible to the casual player (less than FFXIV) but there were still things i knew I wouldn't get simply because of level of dedication.

    FFXIV doesn't have that. That is what I think is missing from the game to be honest. Everything is streamlined and optimized for everyone to have a legitimate chance at obtaining what they want. I know for sure that I can get everything I want to get in this game without exception. Why? because it is all streamlined... want full allagan? sure it will take you a while, but you can get it NP by just getting drops. Want all your mythic, relic +1? just takes time... not real dedication to hunting, epic long quests, etc etc.

    Don't get me wrong I LOVE THIS GAME. I love it because I am someone that can't be the hardcore MMOer that I once was but I can still achieve all the content in the game for the most part. But at the same time, there are things missing (in terms of incentive) for the hardcore community, things that will truly distinguish members of the community from one another.

    Not to go off on a serious tangent, but a great way to implement this would be to re-introduce Notorious Monsters (not fate based) that are force pops with rare drops. Another would be specific challenges that Hardcore players can do Solo... SOMETHING different from the FATE/DUNGEON/RAID scene that other games seam to implement. FFXIV needs some more diversity for the hardcore and casual, but still allow members of the community to distinguish themselves.
    This will never happen because the over casuals who don't share your point of view(which is most of them) will complain that they can't get these epic gearz by logging in for a few hours a week.

    Hence why RMT is such huge business. Players want gear quick but don't have the time or patience to obtain it.

    Over casuals have ruined MMO's. To bad we will never have a company that is willing to stand up to the masses of the interwebz and say NO! Our game is played like this, and if you dont like it, dont buy it! But instead they will continue to bow to the almighty dollar and the masses of interwebz babies who have no idea what MMO's used to be like. Yes you can cry white knighting, or rose colored glasses or nostalgia if you want. But the fact is that most older players are very unhappy with the now now now attitude of games and gamers alike. I would give a lot to have a company make a game that was full of stuff to do, where end game took a while to get to, where progression was slow. But it will never happen now, the precedent is already set. If this game gets any worse/problems are not fixed I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I guess just retire from MMO's altogether and this makes me sad

    This will never happen for two reasons those who fund these type of games want a return on investment meaning that even before they start work on the game they have to convince the investors that their vision will make money and two once the game has been made and is running they will want to continue making money and will gear the game toward to the largest money source which is currently casual gamers.
    Right or wrong that is the industry.

    Its all about expectations though. That is a different story all together. In most MMOs my expectation is to complete the high end dungeons and be competitive in PvP. If that is through epic loot or skill, depends on the game. In some games, that is not accessible to all. Having access to content for all is something i am in favor of. Being able to clear it and obtain its reward is something I feel should be reserved to those that deserve it.

    But again, most people don't share that PoV.
