I think this is a ridiculous lack of response to a real problem - many players choose to level multiple characters for reasons that are well within the terms of service. As others have already pointed out, it seems unlikely that RMT would rely on mailing items between characters on the same account when you consider that they have access to as many accounts as they could ever need - this policy only hurts legitimate players.

There are many reasonable solutions proposed in this thread that would give no noticeable boost to the already rampant RMT presence in the game, but you seem unwilling to even consider let alone discuss them openly. If this continues, I won't be renewing my subscription when the option comes around again.

Step 2: Log on character B and send character A a friend invite.

Step 3: Log on character A and accept the invite

Congratulations you can now mail things to your alts.
This is a brilliant idea... I only wish it didn't have 'exploit' written all over it, or I'd be queueing for a dungeon right now...

So many little things about this game are just so... bothersome or annoying.

Nothings instant, .3 second delays, not being able to send tells in dungeons, lame bag/inventory system, only 5 buffs/debuffs showing on raid frames, now this..

Joke of a company, at this point.

except, as others have pointed out. your reason for this restriction is NOT working as RMT have a way around this and, it has become an annoying inconvenience for legit players. thus you should rethink this.

this is just a good idea and should be considered. I mean how hard can it be for you to set it up so that all of our alts on a single world are auto added? it can't be that hard to do really

I have yet to hear a valid reason for a lot of the artificial restrictions in this game. Not being able to mail our own rerolls being one of them. Just as not being able to mail people not in our friendlist (at least they could have allowed us to mail people in our FC's/LS's). Just as I don't understand why they restricted in-instance /tell's, especially when most of the game (particularly endgame and leveling) is instanced.

To think they actually took the time to code these restrictions, rather than work on implementing more features (such as right-clic blacklisting/reporting, or group invites, or group lead promotion, or a master loot option, an inventory sort feature, item search…)

All they usually say is: "it's like that, we don't plan to change it". First of all, why? if players humbly request these changes, why not even planning to, regardless of how long the wait will take? Secondly, why not at least giving a sound reason? That's no way of dealing with feedback. We might as well not speak, our words are just hitting a brick wall.

    It truly boggles my mind.

Thinking on the matter, there is an easy way for Square to allow us to mail to our alts (and everyone) freely, as well as curb the RMT broadcasters (as that is what people are afraid of if they un-restrict the mailing system).

Square needs to put a cost on sending mail to other characters; 100gil, 200gil.. something along those lines. It's a near minuscule amount to characters actually leveling or at end game, but to a character that was created solely for spamming others with advertisements, it's doubtful that they will have enough gil to even send a handful of letters out without questing.. and the time that it takes to collect the gil would be a waste of time/effort on the part of the RMT employee.

RMT using mail to advertise hasn't been an issue in a single game that I've ever played, so why suddenly use that as an excuse for this now?

Do you know what you get when you add an abundance of pointless RMT countermeasures that harm the player base but barely slow down RMT? FFXIV 1.0
