Muling: Let us mail to alts without having them on friend list

Currently the system is designed just to allow sending items to those on your friend list. In the future removing this restriction might be something to consider, but we don't have any planned changes at the moment.

No, you shouldn't remove this restriction. It should remain written in stone. This is a red herring. All characters on my account do and should be tied to my account. I'm pretty sure when player housing comes out we won't be allowed to have 8 houses, like we do characters on a server. Because the system knows those 8 characters are the same account. On that same note, my account characters can be auto assigned to friends list. The current friends only thing has nothing to do with accounts tied to characters.

If SE wanted to, they could just run a report on the database to find if the service account of a friend matches the friends list owner. Then bulk ban and increment the RMT task force "dealt with" numbers. SE has confiscated all gil from innocent accounts and let the gil buyers keep the bought items and keep playing, so I won't try to predict whether they would actually ban anyone for this.

I don't know why SE doesn't allow it, but I also don't understand why alts would be preferable to more storage or extra retainers, especially since bound or untradable items couldn't be mailed anyway.

I think a lot of crafters care. Make 8 chars on a server and have 320 slots to sell the same item? That would be bad.

....You do realize they could still do this even without mailing...right?

It wasn't an issue in ffxi. It hasn't been an issue in games where you could put unlimited amount of items on the AH. It wouldn't be an issue here. If anything it would help players be able to buy 1 of an item instead of 99 since no one likes to sell in singles because of the stupid cap in the first place. Really if people think this would be an issue, they need to take their tin foil hats off. (I am a crafter too fyi)

Because I do more with my alts than just store things. One of them is my gatherer. I level different jobs on all of them (and yes, I do re-level all of the necessary sub-classes). It's a pain in the rear to try and transfer gear, funds, and (for the gatherer) the products of my work.
