    Trust me you'd have to be a moron not to "excel" at the current battle system, there is nothing "involved" unless you're soloing something tougher than you. In party play, which is the reason for the overhaul to begin with, you didn't need to tank, hardly needed to heal, you just bashed the monster's face in whether you were a Gladiator or a Thaumaturge and everyone in between.

    when you solo something 7+ levels higher, everything matters and exceling comes in, when you duo leves with mobs 10 levels higher or plus, strategy and roles, mattered. The biggest problem with the battle system is when they forced people to fight things only 10 levels higher, and tried to make the game around killing weak mobs fast, rather than hard mobs well. Now that i can see the levels, i can see why the 10 level thing makes people think the game is easy. We were fighting level 54-55 raptors at level 32, level 44 efts at 26, etc. And in those situations there was a huge difference between having a tank and not, something pointed the wrong way could wipe your team, not having a mage on debuff removal meant your death,

    Its aint the battle system that was the problem, its the level cap on enemies, and making behest easymode, and a way of life.

    While I hate behests, I think a lot of people would prefer something like that over straight grinding. I think in general this game was trying to do away with the norm in grinding mobs like we did in FFXI, however I think it failed miserably because behests and leves a pretty horrible systems. They should have built the battle system around full parties, built content for said parties, and made soloing duoing a viable option via the overworld mobs or quests and stuff....which is really what they are doing now.

    I think the leve system is terrible and here's why:

    There is only a few viable leve's to get worthwhile skillpoints off of and its the mainstream way of leveling(right now)

    The game is all about Dunesfolk, Levinshower, Verdure, Inferno, Rainie(way too rare to even get, I've been 50 for over a month now and have yet to get this leve once.), Great Horay Toads. Mobs in the field just aren't worth grinding because they have so much more HP than behest/leve mobs.

    You don't see raptor parties until the 40's.

    I just think its a total bore to level up right now. Ever since I hit level 50 I've just popped on to do local leve's, the thought of regrinding those same leve's again on another job makes me want to not play at all.

    Behests could use major improvements, the thing is these systems are both way more efficient than grinding mobs out in the field right now, I think thats sad imo.
