I've never queue'd for a DF with less than 3 members - all of whom expect a speed run. Given the current state of tanks on Midgard, you don't have much of an option other than going DF if you aren't in perfect sync with a FC/LS static. I'll teach the tank rotations, give him/her explicit instructions, and expect them executed. If they can't execute, I will simply go on my own and solo. Or dump aggro on them and heal harder.

You'd be surprised what most ppl can pull off when the try to play aggressively.

Thank goodness Yoshi acknowledged this and will split the DF for speed runs.

Simply put, if you can't tank vs. AoE by level 50, you are a lost cause.

If the party is overgeared for content then by all means dps away. If the party is playing to level up and the tank is getting crit, dps are pulling, or there are aggro issues, then it's probably best to just focus on healing. Unless you're scholar. Then your fairy just does it for you.

When I DF AK I assess the gear of the other members and pull accordingly. Not everyone is geared to handle massive pulls for AoE and Speed Runs.

But thank you for assuming, I love how people reply with an arrogant tone in their posts.

I'm a new player myself. Playing a healer, and I'm really enjoying it. I've done the first three dungeons and the Ifrit trial, all as heals, and I plan to continue.

It's been tough learning to balance DPS with heals though. I've only been openly yelled at a couple of times for being too slow at switching to damage (especially on Ifrit's nail). I think I'll get better at it with practice.

I'm a bit more willing to push people. Like I said before, I'm borderline capable of solo'ing. If I have to figuratively pick up a tank by his/her pants and throw him/her into the pit, I will. Be sure you encourage Yoshi to split up the DF as promised.

I'm going to play as I will, because I know what I can do and how far I can carry. I have no interest in spending time teaching people anymore. Keep up or be left behind. It is regrettably that due to small parties and extremely uneven job distributions (never mind that one tank job was officially declared useless for the end game) that players like me get tossed into the DF every once in awhile. I don't think any of us want to be there, but sometimes you just aren't left with any other options.

*shrug* It's a different playing mentality. Usually, when someone displeases me I simply PK them repeatedly. Unfortunately, Yoshi doesn't seem to embrace some old school mentalities (odd considering he was a hardcore DAoC player...). Yeah, it's aggressive. If I'm not going 100% games get boring. I'm not satisfied with anything less than perfect. 30 minute AK run? How about 25 minute? When can I hit 20?

    And so on...

Yeah, then there is no problem. I don't see the need for the long winded speech. I don't go to DF for Garuda speed runs, I ask my FC or shout. DF assumes a different style of play that is all.

I don't agree with this at all. DPS away, especially when in lower level dungeons you have less non-DPS spells to cast. What else are you going to do? Cure Cure stand there for 5 seconds until the tank gets hit twice then Cure? DPS away. I'm more than capable of sleeping, healing, and DPSing in low-level dungeons. Perhaps you aren't comfortable with it, but the only way to *get* comfortable is practice....while keeping the tank alive obviously.

Kind of sort of - can't speak for SCH only WHM. If you're consistently PuG'ing you'll quickly realize that if you're doing this with nublet tanks/dps who can't control hate, you'll die pretty quickly, even with spammed holy or dropping shroud. The key to this is...it depends on the group. If you land a knowledgeable team (you all KNOW what this feels like), then you should contribute more than heals. I also suggest starting the first few mob groups slowly with your DoTs and working your way up until you know your tank's threshold.

If you land in a team where aggro is all over the place, and you're heal tanking because other folks are having a hard time centralizing the hate, then you have a responsibility to survive in order to keep the team up. This might mean you drop your DPSing and run the instance a little more slowly until the team gets into a rhythm.

It's situational. There is no single correct way to play an instance when rolling the dice with PuGs. Either way, there should never be downtime.

I'm on your side but I have to draw the line here. Ethers aren't worth the gil they vendor for in this game.
