I'm a new player myself. Playing a healer, and I'm really enjoying it. I've done the first three dungeons and the Ifrit trial, all as heals, and I plan to continue.

It's been tough learning to balance DPS with heals though. I've only been openly yelled at a couple of times for being too slow at switching to damage (especially on Ifrit's nail). I think I'll get better at it with practice.

What??! Nobody should be expecting you to DPS on the nail for Ifrit. People just over-do it sometimes. Especially the CNJ/WHM.

Yeah - this looks like a case of DPS being undergeared for the fight and looking for a scapegoat. I've run Ifrit HM over 100 times to help FC and LS groups, and I've never needed to DPS the nails...

For the OP and the other newer healers that have posted here, keep in mind you are doing lower lvl dungeons often with players who themselves have just started. It is ok to have things go a little bumpy and it is also ok to stop and talk things over, if you are getting too much hate maybe it is not the tank maybe it is you, although almost always it is a little bit of both. Take time and talk to the tank if you need to so you can sort it out and keep playing it is expected to have the tank or healer still be learning at those levels . As far as DF I personally find it silly to assume every run is a speed run even if you personally are going for that reason if you really are get 4 of your FC and do a SP or FC run. Just have fun doing your role regardless if you are DPS holy or healing the Tank who is still gearing up. No need for LeET play in a DF run lol.

To elaborate on my experience as a new player, I felt the DPS comments aimed at me were valid.

In the second dungeon I ran, we had a DPS player who clearly wanted a speed run. He complained that we were slow, and pulled extra packs of monsters. He indicated that I had both the time and mana to cast more than just Thunder and Aero, and while he wasn't polite about it, he was technically correct, so I've tried to step up my damage contribution since then.

On the Ifrit Trial, I was told that when the Nail appeared I needed to stop healing and only DPS, otherwise we would wipe. I failed to do this the first couple times (resulting in wipes), because I was too busy trying to keep everybody healed up from all the AOE damage. What that taught me was how to prioritize my heals (the Thaumaturge, for example, needed healing ASAP, because he couldn't take more than one fire breath attack without dying), and things went smoother once I was able to get a full DPS rotation on the Nail right away.

Otherwise, things have gone well. I like healing in this game, and I haven't had any complaints about my healing performance. I've only had a couple rough patches with wipes. Of course, there were aforementioned Ifrit wipes. And I also caused a couple wipes when the DPS speed runner pulled too many monsters, and I wasn't fast enough with my heals to keep up (though I eventually managed to succeed at that too). Anyway, I'm willing to take the blame for and learn from those mistakes, and I feel like I'm getting better at healing as a result.

Yep. I was talking about the level 20 fight, but I'm thankful for all the advice nonetheless.

And I totally get that the other players may share some of the blame for the wipes I experienced. But from my perspective, if there was something I could have done to prevent a wipe, and I didn't do it, then that's on me. I need to learn how to save the day during those surprise situations.

No, we all caught that. Which makes it even worse that the DPS need help on that nail. They have LB and many other tools to use other than try to blame the cnj for not DPS when they can't even stay out of damage zones.
