It's not just for traveling... that can be circumnavigated without needing to jump.
It's very easy to see where you can and can't go well before you get there while running around. The mini-map gives you a good representation of where passable spots are as well as impassible ones. There's no reason why those ledges should be a nuisance... unless you're not paying attention to where you're going.
I've never had trouble navigating any of the areas in XIV. There's really no trick or secret to it. Simply pay attention to the land and navigate accordingly. Easy as pie.

you can kill mobs on the upper zone near the camp then you can immediately jump off the cliff to the lower zone for another mobs
