I don't get why they don't just make instanced channels for the game. Its so simple.

you cant have 4 odin or 4 behemoth....if there are 4 channel
and to add to the topic, the limit doesnt help much ingame, at Odin and behemoth fate it still hard to see those 2 once ppl begin to arrive to the area. But some ppl say they have lesser lag than before and I d like to know if any can confirm this cos I have never get lag in those 2 fate
Please write out the entire infrastructure both client and server side for this, I mean it is so simple after all, you should be able to do it in your next reply, pastebin if you need more room :> Sorry to break it to the "Omg SE fail this is supposed to be an MMO blah blah" people but every MMO that exists has population caps, that is the 'channel' system, the ones that don't have population caps you're usually flooded with RMT or people hanging around town asking how to mine for fish - Basically just clutter more than actual gameplay benefits.
Even XI instituted population caps, 712 people per zone - Besieged was the biggest time it happened and that was 2006, I'm pretty sure XI still runs today.
Are the fates even that bad? I never had problems with Behemoth, not even lag. I haven't been around for Odin yet, but a few FC mates reported he wasn't visible. We've had no server crashes that I am aware of that were a result of one of these spawns.
This is the dumbest fix I've seen a modern MMO implement to address their server load problems. Most MMOs either have overflow channels or you just deal with the lag, and laugh about it a year down the road.
Are you trying to tell us that SE is living 7 years in the past and have learned nothing nor kept up with changes in technology? I guess that explains it then.
I'm thinking of EVE Online and the Jita cluster lock. If Jita is at 2200 they won't let you log in there but they do offer surrounding systems. In EVE I liked the system. I would log out in Jita with an Industrial full of high priced junk so I didn't have to deal with the scan brigade at undock.
Here? You are number 38 in queue. For the duration of the Odin fight. I don't expect them to offer home or favored destination teleports on login.
You guys are kidding right.
SE WHAT THE F*CK?
EVE online does this in Jita.
and everyone always praises Eve's mega awesome military grade super great awesome servers.
Food for thought, since many of you like to compare server structures with Eve and say they have the best in the business. Sometimes stuff like this is the method of choice, rather than having NPCs not appear on screen.
crap someone beat me to it
I HATE this idea. I pla yon a server with my friends, to play with them. Not on some stupid channel system

Okay right now your friends are in the area fighting Odin and you get an error trying to get into the zone.
Is that better? You still can't play with them when they are in a area that's full.
so what do you suggest instead of channels?
A limit to how many people are in the zone. Limitations are sometimes a necessity. We already have so much bad features from other MMOs with FATEs, DF, etc... pleeeeease don't bring this instanced zone crap to FF.
They decided to make the game possible for PS3 players. This severely limits rendering, and now they need to limit the amount of people in zones, whatever, I'll deal with it.
But the minute there is instanced zones in this game, I, for one, am OUT. No need to have more community segregation than there already is.
lol you didn't answer my question.
when there are people in a full zone and others can't enter - that's segregation.
the difference between this current "solution" and the channel solution is:
with the channels i can actually enter the area and play the content i'm paying for.
