    Your mind, open it!
Perhaps you should re-read my post. I said, " ..if you're using a new character for each class/job..". This implies that you are NOT leveling sub classes. I get people wanting to have alts, and there's nothing wrong with it (I have one myself), but like it or not, this MMO is designed for having one main character. If you take one job to 50 and level nothing else, you're gimping each character. There's just no way around that.

Sticking to one character only too. I like the fact that our single character can be the "jack of all trades"

I do one character per combat job as I prefer having one character as one class from other MMOs. Was always bothered by FFXI's method of doing everything on one character. It's still that way with FFXIV, but at least it is not impossible to have alts like it was in FFXI. Also in FFXIV you don't have to take classes that support your main job really high which is nice.

Personally I feel that if a character can do everything there is no personality to that character. Jack of all trade characters make very uninteresting stories. That's the roleplayer in me talking, though.

Unfortunately this creates the problem of not having enough character slots for every job. Currently we are limited to 8 per world.. but there are 9 jobs, with more to come in the future I am sure. Don't think that'll change as I'm in the minority as far as this issue is concerned. Sigh.

I have two characters, obviously, and I love playing both of them and leveling both of them up, including sub-classes~! I have them in different cities so I can see the story line to that city.

I don't think there is any wrong or right way to play this game if the person is enjoying it. I mean what is the point of SE giving me 40 characters if I don't use them, heehee. And for people to say if they have more than one character they are wrong, or don't understand the game, well that's just sad. People shouldn't be putting down other people for how they choose to play their game and their character(s).

It's a personal preference and has nothing to do with wrong or right. I know a lot of people who play two characters, actually!

One character for everything, no real point in making alts in my opinion. You'd really only be creating more work for yourself.

I thought of making alts so I didn't have to FATE grind all the combat classes but I figured doing the story stuff over for each one would be just as tedious. I still might make a couple just to play some of the other races that I like.

you don't make alts in FF MMOs, except for the extra storage and retainers.

Alts are from that 'other' mmo

Alts! Purely for retainers though. You don't get rich restricting yourself to only being able to sell 40 items on AH at a time.

The character your posting with is both level 15 PUG and 15 LNC. I imagine you're just trolling with an unpopular opinion for the sake of it.

It's just as "impossible" to have alts in FFXIV as it is in FFXI, the only difference is you don't have to pay extra. It's also equally pointless given that the game is built upon having cross class skills.

I mean, have alts if you like, that's your prerogative, but don't act like it's a flaw in the game and you're let down by it. There are many games that don't support multi-class characters, so I'd advise you go play those before condemning a game which you knew well beforehand, has this fundamental purpose built in.

Also in FFXIV you don't have to take classes that support your main job really high which is nice.
Yes you do. FFXI had a 1/2 level limit. Most classes in FFXIV require (at least, highly desire) a skill or two from around the mid-20's, and the cap is 50. So it's virtually the same thing.
