Tell us how you play! One character for everything or alts?

    Hello fellow Eorzeans (Eorzeacians?)!

Title says it all: I would like to get opinions from people, how they play the game exactly (or planning to if you just started). Been on my mind for a while and saw some talk about it but we never got a big thread covering that.

Personally my current character, a big 7 foot tall 400 pounds Roegadyn, will be my Paladin and my White Mage. I just don't really see him as a Black Mage, Bard or Pugilist: I would prefer to have another race for that, ''fits'' better for me. And seriously have you seen a Roegadyn in a Bard outfit? Scary...

So how are YOU guys doing it? Share with us!

And remember: there is no right or wrong way to do it. It's not because the game allows you to do everything on a single character that you HAVE to. Everyone plays differently, everyone has an opinion, everyone is entitled to said opinion.

It's a game after all: we should enjoy it the way we see fit!

If you are using alt's for different jobs not only are you gimping yourself, you fundamentally don't understand this game.

I could see an alt for crafting classes to ease up on inventory issues, but if you really need space just use a mule so you don't have to manage double friend lists and linkshell/FC things.

Really? that's a nice opinion but it's my hobby to lvl up alts I enjoy it a lot more then (current) end game atm. leveling up a new character with a different race/job/name/personality feels more fun to me it's like playing as a different person which is why I play mmos.

The problem with this in FFXIV is that you're essentially gimping each character. Jobs use different abilities from other jobs and not having those is a huge deal. Also, having crafts leveled on the same character means cheaper repairs and less hassle to have things made. Making alts is fine, but if you're using a new character for each class/job, you're fundamentally playing this MMO wrong.

There is no right or wrong way to play that game... It's not because the game is giving you the option to roll everything on a single charatcer that you HAVE to do it... There is no such thing as ''gimping'' your character(s) by doing that.

It only comes down to how we each feel like playing it and nothing else.

No, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it at all. Not every job has access to every class. So how exactly are you gimping yourself by leveling another type of class with a different toon?

No where does the OP state they aren't going to get the necessary cross class abilities for their alts. They can easily have Glad, Marauder, Conj leveled on one character for their Paladin, and have THM, ARC, and Archer leveled on their other for Black Mage. As far as jobs go those sets of three have nothing to do with each other.

    Your mind, open it!

Perhaps you should re-read my post. I said, " ..if you're using a new character for each class/job..". This implies that you are NOT leveling sub classes. I get people wanting to have alts, and there's nothing wrong with it (I have one myself), but like it or not, this MMO is designed for having one main character. If you take one job to 50 and level nothing else, you're gimping each character. There's just no way around that.

I love how this is the first comment on this topic, directly underneath where the guy said "there is no wrong way to play"

I agree with the original comment, i like having different characters for different classes, i like all the races so its fun to have characters of different races, and its interesting to see the different stories that start out of the different cities

And honestly when I get them all to 50 with the class and jobs that i had in mind ill would probably just get them all to 50 with every class and job, 5000 hours later lol

Also I heard something about them adding new races in the future so who knows, if theyre on for a limited time or something then Im definitely going to make an alt for it so im on of the people who have it

As long as one levels up the right complementary classes for cross-class skills, no, you're not actually gimping yourself at all.

For what it's worth to the OP's question: I'm an altaholic in every MMO I touch. I need the variety of different looks and different themes for each character.

Job =/= class, just so you know.

There's no reason to have multiple accounts for anything other than more storage space or seeing the story from a different starting city.

...or if you wanted to make a female miqo'te character and exploit all the horny teens for everything they're worth.
