Most of them are fun when in a full party with your friends.

Most quests that aren't story-driven or in an action game aren't fun unless with friends.

So then why is the Elder Scroll's series so successful? they still haven't taken the leap to Coop afaik.

You missed the story-driven part I guess.

Leves are story driven, they're still no fun. And Solo or otherwise. If you're enjoying yourself in partying leves its not because of the fact that you're in a party its probably because you're enjoying the company of others, meaning I wont get that satisfaction by grouping up with randoms on a daily basis.

Me too, still doesn't change the fact that they are successful.

Leves are not story driven. They have absolutely nothing to do with the story of FFXIV and are just daily quests. "Hey, these guys are pissing in the aquifers, go kill them."

Quests and side-quests are story driven and I find them fun because despite the fact that they are mostly run from point A to B to C and talk to people, they reveal more backstory and story on the game. Leves do not.

What are you talking about? leves and side quests are almost the same thing except they become more personal. Leve: Miqote Lisa wants you to retrieve her stolen crap from five Dodos. Quest: Miqote Lisa: Hello! can you please retrieve my stolen crap from five Dodos? they're the same. The only thing intensely story driven in this game is the storyline itself and the class quests but if we're talking side quests and leves they are one and the same, its up to you to decide to read them or not.

Here are a sampling of a few side-quests currently in game.

"Fhruybolg of the Gladiators' Guild has asked for your aid in finding heroes from across the realm to recruit for the coming reformation of the Grand Companies. Speak to the people of Ul'dah and gather what information you can."

"The ecologically minded U'bokhn tells you of her environmental-action
group, Desert Shade. Despite their best efforts to have seeds take root in
Ul'dahn soil, stuffed dodos quickly consume anything resembling and green
shoot. She asks that you travel to the Nanawa Mines in Thanalan and
    exterminate eight of these pests."

"The barkeeper of the tavern at Amajina & Sons' Mineral Concern, Tyago Moui, has asked you to aid in gathering material for a bard compiling a series of tales concerning the twelve Archons. To provide inspiration for the bard's depiction of the great warrior Archon Ahldbhar, go and speak to the famed gladiator, Lyngwaek."

"The sentry Kinnison, who stands watch before the Lotus Stand, is concerned over the well-being of the Seedseers-Gridania's three wood-wandering sages. He requests that you call upon five townspeople who may well have seen or heard from them in recent days. Visit the individuals and learn what you can."

    Now here's some from leves.

"The fields near Camp Bearded Rock have become infested with rat moles, whose burrowing has severed the roots of various rare herbs native to the area. To protect the herbs and the livelihood of those who harvest them, seek out and exterminate the subterranean pests."

"The Stillglade Fane is busy making preparations for this moon's Woodgreet Mass, and requires several evenfall fireflies so use in the Rites of Purification. In which two and ten of the luminous creatures are released from a basket over the Fane, their light believed to cleanse the sacred land and prepare it for ceremonies to follow."

"In an attempt to document the habitats of different varieties of forest-dwelling wavekin in the area, the Limsa Lominsan Fishermen's Guild is hiring adventurers to travel to the cenotes near Camp Emerald Moss, fish the waters, and report to the guild their findings. "

"To protect his ship against ambushes by pirates and Sahagin alike, the captain of the cargo ship the Dawn Trader has hired several mercenaries to accompany his crew on its next voyage . To ensure the mercenaries have enough equipment to fend off any threats, ship storesman Leveridge Halborn is currently looking to restock his armory with spare weapons and is searching for skilled blacksmiths to create the items. "

Notice how the Side-quests actually tie-in with something already in place in the story (except An Inconvenient Dodo) while levequests are generally helping an inconsequential NPC do something? Side-quests tie into something larger to do with the story, while levequests do not. Levequests have background lore in them, but side-quests and quests serve to further the lore :/
