The guildleve system for the most part is the same as grinding with bonus SP and rewards attached. But really, just how much should this system accomplish? Faction Boss/Event leves add some interest to the system, but there is not really that much that can alleviate the shortcomings of a system that is designed for repeating a series of very similar tasks over vast quantities of time.

Though I would say that focusing on improving gameplay and making the game feel more dynamic would make the little things not be so noticeable.

they are pointless and I totally agree with Shiyo. I don't see how people have fun doing the same group of leves with no difficulty to them. Seems people are easily amuzed when there is not much else to do

I like it and I'll tell you why. Guildleve's are a way to rank up jobs that has a purpose to the grinding besides just the sp. No I'm not talking about the players that always fail. I am talking about players that do them for the reward of guild points. Grinding party's are monotonous and even more boring then the guildleves. Instead of kill 100 efts disband party, you can kill many types of mobs and progress through your grinding play time. I do about the same sp in a grind party as I do in a guildleve party. For the players that don't like them there is always a straight grind. I for one like that we have the option to do these instead of a traditional grind party.

Except that you don't do the exact same SP in a grind party because a grind part has no limit to it. Leves are ok, but they shouldn't give so much SP and shouldn't be the center of everything in FFXIV. The game is built for leves when they were clearly and repeatedly promoted as "for casuals" by Tanaka. Well if they're for casuals, what was meant for hardcores? if they're for casuals why are there Aerthyte camps EVERYWHERE!? and if they're for casuals, why did all the casuals drop the game already? lol I hate leves but I do them anyway. The game would've done better to have you maybe progress to new, fresh areas every 10 leves or so, similar to how FFXI did it. i.e., make the trip from 1-50 a lot longer, make certain zones for up to rank ~10 (say Ronfuare) then you make a trip to the Rank 10 zone (Say valkurm) and so on and so forth. That would've been ok. But instead we do the same leves in the same areas over and over and over and overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and over again.

Most of them are fun when in a full party with your friends.

Most quests that aren't story-driven or in an action game aren't fun unless with friends.

So then why is the Elder Scroll's series so successful? they still haven't taken the leap to Coop afaik.

You missed the story-driven part I guess.

Leves are story driven, they're still no fun. And Solo or otherwise. If you're enjoying yourself in partying leves its not because of the fact that you're in a party its probably because you're enjoying the company of others, meaning I wont get that satisfaction by grouping up with randoms on a daily basis.

Me too, still doesn't change the fact that they are successful.

They're popular because people like complete freedom in every way possible I think. You can completely customize your char and explore the big worlds, I find that really boring in a single player game though.
