Now I can't read the original post since I looked the gifthorse in the mouth and added him to my ignore list a while back.

But I can say that I do enjoy guildleves.

I also like to get around and try and do them all rather than just staying in Thanalan. By the time I've seen most of them, I'm usually up to the next level of camps anyway.

    Just putting it out there.

I would have been happier if this game released without leves, and we had to grind mobs to level. They should have implemented leves later on, as an option for "solo" play, because right now they don't serve their purpose. They are supposed to be weaker mobs, made for solo players to have something to do when they log on. Right now they're weaker mobs, that we zerg with 8 people with no challenge.

This game would have been much harder RIGHT NOW without leves. I'm also not exactly sure why they encourage you to party for content specifically designed for solo players. A level30 leve mob has a lot less hp and does a lot less damage than a field level30 mob, again proving that they were intended for solo players.

I posted this in another guildleve thread.

Guildleves are equal to the same boring exp grind of other games. At times I have enjoyed leves but around level 40+ I find them extremely boring.

I like Guildleve's, I just hate that its almost all there is to do on FFXIV.... Well at this time I expect more to do in the coming months, but that at release it was a constant grind of guildleve's, with the every few ranks get a storyline quest to do, which most of the time I finished quicker than some guildleves.....

Yes, I can say with confidence that pretty much everyone in my LS enjoys them. We have regularly scheduled leve runs and always have fun when we're running them.

The stories attached to them have absolutely no purpose whatsoever. They aren't integrated to the gameplay and completing these tasks doesn't change anything in the world. Same quest will pop up again and again.

If that's not enough to make you feel like they're pointless the designers don't trust us enough to find a group of Dodo's on our own in a game filled with them.

Also just what is the point of the timer? It feels like another tool to take all choice away from the player.

Only challenge is if you die too many times you might not complete the leve in the given time. But after so many deaths you've lost all connection to you character anyway since death doesn't mean anything. Worst case scenario is that you lose your leve reward but since they are so pointless anyway that doesn't leave you feel like you've lost nor won when the leve ends.

How is it possible that all the leves are 100% alike each other? Just what am I supposed to feel when doing them?

I just completed a tough Fields of Valor page today in XI. I was really glad I managed to get more tabs and xp after dying earlier that day so it felt like I had made some real progress. I love tab buffs and they're one of my favorite things about FoV. I also like that you can do them however you wish. Also FoV doesn't try to be anything else than what it is. That's what quests are for with their own music and cutscenes.

In XIV there's nothing like that to make up for the tradmill-like monotony of the leves.

You can make "Baderon's New Sword" a thousand times but he will never show up at the camp, won't ever wear it as part of his gear, won't thank you for making it and will never stop needing you to make it again.

I have brought this up many times before, but has anyone played phantasy star online? (not universe)

They pretty much created guild leves. You'd ...
    • form a party,
    • go to the hunter's guild,
    • pick a mission to start,
    • then you all had a small cutscene with the client at the beginning that got you more involved.
    • Then you'd all run to the teleport gate and it'd take you to where the mission took place.
The missions were done in instanced (I think randomly generated, or at least they showered changes for sure) dungeons and you had lots of variate objectives (missions didn't feel like a copy paste or grinding as leves do on xiv). Such as:
    • Kill a boss.
    • Kill a certain ammount of X enemy.
    • Recover certain item from deep within the dungeon.
    • Blast through a dungeon unlocking the closed doors before the fire barrier would catch up with you.
It also had some casual missions like carnivals and such where everybody could just mess around.

I think they should just change guild leves to exactly this. I don't care if its more of a rip off than it already is.
Then use the actual camps for grind parties. Have more enemies and real camps set up all around them so that people can set a camp here as they did on XI.

I don't hate them. I just hate the fact that the entire game seems to have been originally centered around something as mundane as daily quests. But I'll just chalk that up to being rushed out before completion.

They just need to keep adding new leves to keep it fresh and make them more challenging and make them so you actually need a party.

pso is probably closer to dungeons than guild leves, and yeah i enjoyed the game, although it wasnt till challenge mode that you really saw what the game was about, outside of challenge mode you could just obliterate everything, and that could get boring after awhile, of course that had the rare drops to keep you hooked, heh
