An AK run is actualy the most rewarding instance to do by far, even now with the doubled or tripled duration. First, you get ILV60 gear which is a nice step up if you don't have DL yet. Second, you get 40 Mythology stones AND 80 Philosophy. Sure it is grindy, it's an MMO. Compared to a lot of others it's a lot less grindy. For it to not be grindy you would have to have a completely new instance every time you go to get tomestones or gear - obviously this is impossible.

In a way, the work you do (killing mobs) is rewarded by getting gear and tomestones at the end. But, yes that can't really be justified. Mobs should drop loot, at least crafting materials.
