Eve also had ways to create vast amounts of money. Virtually my entire way of making money in Eve was making/buying ships, insuring them, and blowing them up for the insurance money. That money was a huge credit fountain.
So many people decided to pwrlvl through Fates that ,of course , now they don't have the gear or the Gil to Buy/make the gear they need. That's the downside of pwrlvl'ing. I'm not lvl'ing as fast but I can make and repair my own gear and I make enough gil that I don't want for anything. Go back now and do the storyline. You will make plenty of gil and get plenty of gear free.

Hell, barring that, you could make TONS of money from NPC quests alone. Enough to actually never pay a single dime for the game if you were diligent about it. Some of the final arcs gave millions of ISK a pop.
In this game, if I manage to get 500 gil for one leve at level 50, I feel like I hit a fucking gold mine. It should NOT be this way.

After completing the storyline, netting me over 200k, then getting to spamming Ampador/ the second to last story dungeon / having a friend craft me stuff for free , getting quite a bit of darklight I am now at... 4kish gil with almost broken gear. Woot.
Why don't you try doing them yourself, a couple of mats you can easily farm, 6~ untill the end product and easy 2k+ gil netgain (lvl 30~ DoH). Someone with a scripted bot can make quite a bit of gil from the air by simple automation of a production chain.
Okay, I'm posting here again. Ive been doing lv45 leves for my DoH. They give me 2000 gil per hq turn in (which i can do with nq mats) for probably less than 50 gil of repair cost to myself. I can do 12 of these a day for 12000 gil minted (leve reward) a day. With more materials I could gain 24000 gil per day using a different leve that takes more materials.
For these materials ive had to commision other DoHs, botanists, miner (for the other doh) and most of all battle classes to gather materials. At it stands im giving out about the full 2000 gil to the battle classes(but that value will lower if there is indeed deflation).

So if you get a net loss from farming mats, from crafting and fighting how are we able to make money again?
I mean I could sell to the shrinking market my gathered or crafted goods but eventually there will be no one with any gil left to buy my stuff.
So what would I do then eh?
I have a legacy character that has 700k between her and her retainers.. but as it stands I have been doing the main story and just questing been constantly in the red each day.
My LS blow it off as no big deal but I am leveling a alt on the side and I can see the problem clear as day....
What concerns me the most is that not a single DEV or forums moderator has even stated that they are aware of the issue.
Not sure why everything sells for currently for 1-5 gil in game it wasn't like that in 1.0.
I always been frugal both in game and real life but I have never felt this pinched for money ever in a mmo, but now in this game and I can say that I am growing pretty upset on the matter at hand.
Everything ends with "But the repairs make it a loss".
Simple solution: Remove repairs.
I lose more durability and have to pay more for repairs if I full clear a dungeon and kill all trash than if I skip all trash, die once per boss at the door then get ressed(x3) and only kill bosses.
How does that make any sense?
